  1. A former crew member is looking at a small trailer yacht for cruising and asked about this Magnum 21 on Trademe http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/yachts/trailersailer/auction-1168881181.htm Does anyone have any advice, or possible alternatives, he is looking to cruise to various areas of the country.
  2. Storing the pole on the boom lets you leave the topper and downhaul connected which meant for fast deployment and stowing with less tangles and sheet wrapping.
  3. Their output is rated at 400A and by having short charging leads they seem to be able to start quite big engines. If the battery is totally flat then it is needed to be connected for a little bit before attempting to crank the motor.
  4. I bought a little jump start pack as you see on TV, it starts diesels and petrols plus charges cellphones. It is about the size of a large cellphone and I bought it for $100 a couple of years ago. No one can believe what it starts, although if it is not topped up every 2 months it struggles. I would get a slightly more heavy rated (still small) unit but they are really useful.
  5. What did you do with the old one (bulb) and how heavy was it?
  6. It could have been serious and life threatening, but I couldn't stop myself from laughing - the bubbles and turbulence that occurred showed the action really well. Whales are not to be played with but they may want to play with you so watch out, I suppose.
  7. I used an old cloth as a drop sheet, unfortunately it allowed paint that was dropped accidentally to seep through leaving paint marks underneath which I didn't find out till everything had dried - difficult to remove especially in fabric, carpet etc. A lot of work to get it off - I won't do that again!
  8. Pretty happy in Tauranga, with club members taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. That doesn't happen very often or at all. How many other clubs in the world have done better?

    Prop talk

My 2 blade folding Gori prop is excellent and reverses quite well too
  10. The keel and bulb looks OK in those photos, how and why are you changing it?
  11. I had that happen to my Bukh and I was advised that problem was from a blockage on the inlet side. I inspected the intake hose carefully and it showed signs of collapsing, I replaced it with a fully reinforced hose and there has been no problems for a couple of years.

    Ross 35

I've looked at a few Ross 35s (not 1066) including Manxman (that is a nice example) but found that the 1/4 berths are like caves and awkward to get in there. Also, the front berth is a bit on the short side plus the cabin height a bit too low with some having strenghtening ribs at a dangerous height. I went and bought a Young 1034 which is similar in size but far better in all those areas I have just mentioned and has a better layout IMO.
  13. It's been a while since I have down that way, I didn't know about the Paua World in Carterton. I love the rugged coast past the Palliser lighthouse - can you still get past there and get to those giant rocks to camp beside - they're amazing.
  14. Looks like you did a road trip down the Wairarapa Coast, first to the Castlepoint Lighthouse and then Cape Palliser lighthouse. the toilet seat could be at Lake Ferry, Ngawi or Martinborough but that is a tough one.
  15. Jade Lady and crew won our club 2nd division Burnsco Winter Series, first time I've won a competitive series with my own boat, pretty happy especially as it was close in points and the result took me by surprise!!
  16. Provincial Cowboy was in Tga and needing a lot of work alright, now better??
  17. I thought the story was going to be .... while swinging around the mast his phone decided to fly off into the Athenree Estuary ..... luckily it didn't end that way!!
