  1. Stu built a new rudder when he had Ballistic, I think he is All Fired Up. If you search under foam profiles then it can be found but the photos haven't come through, his rudder set up was different to normal 930s though.
  2. I don't know why you would put a boat on a mooring when there are casual marina berths available for a "reasonable" cost, possibly $2-3000 annually and there is security, less seagulls and good ease of access. The marina at Sulphur Point - run by the Tga Marina Society is my preference with pricing and no tide running through it, that's where my boat is. In my view Pilot Bay has less tide but more exposed to SW, tenders have to be stored at home or on the Pilot Bay beach where they can be damaged or stolen, there is more boat traffic too. By the Bridge Marina the moorings can be closer but t
  3. I think many people cover the thinner strong cores with nice light and tough covers, quite often old ropes that have sections of lightly worn sections, the covers only need to be in areas handled by hand, winch and clutch.
  4. I've got 4 altogether, suitable for the 3000 series instrument which are most common. I'm in Tga if anyone can pick them up from Auckland
  5. I had that happen to my Bukh and I was advised that problem was from a blockage on the inlet side. I inspected the intake hose carefully and it showed signs of collapsing, I replaced it with a fully reinforced hose and there has been no problems for a couple of years.
  6. I have one or two you can have, I'm about to head to Brisbane but will be back after Easter. Andy 0273031477
  7. It's gone SW and starting on time- shortly
  8. What will the weather be tomorrow?
  9. The forecast is progressively extending the stronger NE winds into Friday - looks promising for Vodafone to break the record and boats like Crusader to fly!
  10. With the popularity of catamaran sailing on the edge and the inevitable capsize, why can't the cats have a light halyard running to the top of the mast where in the event of the upturn, a gas cannister and inflatable bladder is raised (lowered) to the top of the mast and then deployed. This would avoid the mast in the mud and further expensive damage plus the cost would be minimal I would think.
  11. The beat would be good conditions for Oracle? There are so many variables when weather systems come through, we'll see.
  12. It is quite an easy job to remove the top part where the winch inserts and get a groove machined to accept conventional winch handles
  13. I deal with the Tauranga branch at the Mount and they have been excellent, they saved me money by recommending alternatives.
  14. It's on again this Easter which is a bit earlier than usual, looking forward to seeing you out on the water. Who's in this year? A major change is to the finish time details, this will allow all boats to finish. 8.4 Finish Time The time limit shall be the later of 1600 hours on 25 March, or 30 hours after the start signal for the first division to start. Any boat not reaching the finish line by this time will be entitled to radio in their position, if possible, verified by the predictwind tracker position, and later verified by declaration. Any boat finishing in this manner will be el
  15. I agree, also seeing how they apply silicone sealer it backs up the case.
  16. I see PRM acknowledge their gearboxes have a problem if overfilled, but that excerpt doesn't have much technical backing in my view. Excessive friction, heat build up, seal failure with associated venting of oil sounds feasible. I was thinking that something was forcing the friction cones constantly into contact with the hub surface, a bit like when drivers like to hold onto the gearlever of cars whilst driving causing premature shift fork and cone wear.
  17. Does being overfull, really wear out the cones?

    Dicky gearbox

I'm not sure about that being a problem, getting back to automobile technology. Nissan uses a special silicone type of sealant made only for manual gearboxes without problem, there is even types for automatic transmissions too, so you can't just group sealant into a one use and one type bucket.

If it is like car syncros then it sounds like the oil is too thick especially in cold conditions and won't allow the oil film to be easily overcome when cold but ok when hot, I would check the oil specifications and maybe try a thinner modern multi grade if you can't find a problem.
  20. Just ignore what I have said as it only has a hard dodger, looking at your pictures I have got the wrong idea! Sorry, as you need a bimini mainly.
  21. I have been trying to find photos but until then, it was a curved fibreglass covering with a stainless frame suitable for attaching clears or similar, quite sturdy and aesthetically pleasing for a cruiser but not for a racing type owner so it has been removed.
  22. I know of a hard dodger that has been just removed from a Ross 35 Manxman in Tauranga with integrated solar panels that may suit your needs. Probably surplus to requirements but price unknown. Worth a look as it is sturdy and well constructed.

Not us, we sailed from Nagles Cove area. Interestingly, after 2 and a bit days of wind and rain we got to about 3 miles out, the wind dropped and the sun started shining - we escaped the weather god of the Barrier!

We were sailing back from the Barrier just after NY without the engine propulsion due to a blade falling off, I put in a trip report explaining that we were going to Westhaven for repairs and that I may need assistance closer to Auckland. To my surprise, just off the Container terminal I heard them calling for us. I informed them of my plan with the Westhaven Marina pick up boat and they thanked me for organising it and wished me the best of luck. Quite good I thought, do they have a lookout around there as it seemed they were watching us approach?? Happy to have some keeping an eye on us th
