Agreed. Always have a plan B ready.ie motoring along, what would you do if engine suddenly quit? So dont go too close to hazards.Answer is to get sail up quick or else throw anchor over.
How would you go replacing with a elec WP? (Daviescraig?) Getting old one off impossible & just breaking it.Would you need some speed controller? It looks doable. Shibaura twin
So you're sailing along on the Tillerpilot and you see the voltmeter reading 'X' amount of volts and you think that is getting down, time to start motor charging.
Qestion is what amount of volts do you consider you should start recharging?

Have 20v coming out of panel(overcast day) then thru the regulator but only 12.3v on the start battery. Have never seen a reading over 12.3. Sound like the regulator faulty, or the battery is in great condition ?
The Irish boat had a new mast in earlier this week and then about Wed she was sitting on a different wharf and a crane or two were by her, and mast out this time.
