  1. Be REALLY careful that Hyde are quoting on the same quality standard. Normally the difference is not that much.
  2. Most races have cruising divisions David - and if you get a good reach, not many boats (most will be smaller) will cover that distance faster than BP anyway - provided you leave the sails up !
  3. The real issue is being absolutely certain of what you are getting. I looked at offshore lofts, or even Kit sails from Sailrite. Once the correct specifications I wanted was reached (Right cloth, design, fittings etc) they were less than 20% cheaper than local sails. My new main will come from Norths, here in Auckland. PM Booboo on this site for a price/info, or click the Norths Advert. Support our Advertisers!
  4. Here is a poll about the proposed National Sailing Center - do you support having one? Should it be at Takapuna? Or somewhere else, and where?
  5. Yes Bogan, you can, but peat moss is very slow growing, and hard to replace. Coconut Coir is more environmentally friendly for this reason...
  6. You are allowed ONE ACCOUNT. It WAS possible to change your "display name" as the user you are referring to has done. It does not change warning points or reputation, its still the same account. I have restricted this 'display name' option as well, now you can't do it without Admin assistance.
  7. John B, no point in arguing with some...
  8. There is an ongoing development of OpenCPN on android, but (at least last time I looked) it was running in a virtual linux environment. Required the tablet to be rooted. There is, and has never been an Andriod version of OpenCPN. PC and Mac (NOT IPAD) only.... Here is the linkto the Android Opencpn forum http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f134/opencpn-on-android-tablet-131106-4.html
  9. Not sure - it appears to be pointing at corrupt pic files....
  10. RACE TO VAVAU The Kerikeri Cruising Club is organising a race from Kerikeri to Vavau planned for 2016 to celebrate the 80th birthday of the club. The proposed race will depart Kerikeri late in May and covers a distance of 1180 miles to a new off-shore race destination. Assistance has been approved from the Tongan Government Tourism Authority and the Vavau Yacht Club as well as several local businesses in Vavau. The Chairman of the Vavau Race Committee Mark Beauchamp has been working on the proposed race for 12 months and says that all that is required now is to go through the formalities w
  11. Careful guys, stay within the site rules! You may not make personal attacks on another member without risk of earning warning points or being banned yourself. If you don't like a post, vote it down, or respond to the post, not the poster. The rules are on the top tabs if you need to refresh your memory. Keep it polite and friendly, and you'll be fine. I'm currently trying to decide how many negative points a member should acquire to result in a 1 month ban. I''m thinking maybe 50? Matt
  12. Here is a brief rundown of installation on Island Time. Here's a pic of the original Lavac install in the aft head compartment; So, I removed this toilet, the henderson mk v pump and all associated hoses, the lectrasan, all its cables etc. I removed the 90 deg hose tail from the seacock, and installed a plug. Provided I'm happy with this setup (and I expect to be), in due course the sea-cock and thru hull will be removed as well - of course when out of the water! All that was harder than installing the Airhead!! I ended up with an empty space, but on test fitting the Airhead, I dec
  13. That's a serious project, and lots of $$ for a 50/50 success rate at this point. You have to admire their willpower! Best of luck to them.
  14. The racer/cruiser ratio is closer than I expected! Age of the boats, mostly 25-35yrs is about what I thought... Anyone else want to add their boats?
  15. No worries. If anyone wants one, probably best to just send me an email. matt@neptunes-gear.com Seems I have a bug in the website that is not adding GST onto these for NZ deliveries. I'm working on that! If you let me know you want one and I will send you a proper Invoice, incl payment details. Cheers Matt
  16. Update on this - I have bought in a shipment. There are 5 remaining. Depending on the time it takes to sell them, I may order more. Unit cost is $1375 + GST. First impressions are; It looks smaller than I expected. Insect screens for the air ducts are included. Everything you need is in the box except for the coconut coir. The Airhead has a seat seal, so you can use it in a toilet/shower area. Some of the others can't do this, as a shower will allow water to enter the unit! I'll do some pics of my install over the next week. Anyone want to by a Lavac Zenith marine toilet, co
  17. 300 odd views, only 58 Boats logged??
  18. Hmm, very open question! What type of boat, cruising where, for how long, and with what crew? In the first instance, a suitable boat in good condition is required! With more info, perhaps we can provide a better reply! Oh, and congrats on the boat, and welcome aboard!????
  19. I thought it might be interesting to know what type of boats most of you have? Please complete the survey!
  20. Really elementary prop selection guide. When you boat is clean, but has it's average load on board, your engine should just reach it's max allowable revs (check the manual) under full power in calm conditions. If it does not, it is over-proped, if it reaches max revs with more than a little throttle still available, it is under proped. A little under-proped is good, as it allows for more load and or weather conditions. Be sure you cannot over-rev you motor, esp an outboard or other petrol engine (Diesels are governed and cannot be over rev'd when working properly). Most little outboard

  22. Thanks for the offer. I think your main is too big - my rig is a little smaller, as is the boat! 39 ft 9 inches without the spirit/anchor platform. Generous offer though, thanks!
  23. Hmm, Tempted, but my main is so rotten that the Admiral put her hand through it the other day. Amazing it has not yet exploded! Hope to order another one from Booboo in the next month or so if I can keep up my current work level!! Then I should be all good.
