Exactly! You're not applying to receive your super overseas, therefore no reason to tell them anything. You'll organise the overseas transfers yourself, not them. Its probably a 10 year old policy (pre internet banking) that enables WINS to transfer $$ to an overseas bank account. These days you can do it anywhere with an internet connection.

Correct, but I hardly think pensioners knowingly going sailing offshore for >26 weeks is a problem that's targeted.

over pension payments?

Personally, I wouldn't tell them a thing. Keep a NZ mail address and a phone number and they'll never know. Once you alert them to your plans, you're on their radar and they know you've informed yourself of the rules. If, and its a big if, they catch you, your interpretation is that you are on a NZ registered vessel therefore you haven't left the NZ. They'll have to prove you wrong and there is no glamour prosecuting superannuates

Thanks, I heard that was the case but had hoped things had changed.

I just realised they're racing in New York this weekend, so whats the best way to watch this, preferably free? Is it streaming online anywhere?

You'll be fine. I draw 7'3 and regularly come and go at close to low tide without much trouble. I occasionally have to push my way through a lump of soft slurry but that's at the bottom of a low tide. The marina management has changed recently and there's been a lot of investment made bringing the whole place up to a better standard ie dredging, increasing the height of the breakwater, landscaping, security etc etc. I've been pleasantly surprised at the improvements since the old (bean counter) management sold out to the new crew. The place is on the up. BTW. The name has changed fro

I wouldn't touch gloss unless youve got a pretty mint surface, it'll accentuate imperfections. Satin or semi-gloss would be my pick

Steve, do you have any pictures of your underwater profile? It sounds like a really interesting setup. I've never heard of twin CB's in line before.

Never! Such unscrupulous behaviour doesn't exist in the yachting fraternity. Similar rumours surrounded a certain race yacht that 'accidentally' went under the Chelsea Sugar works wharf and lost its non-performance mast. Thankfully they were insured and got a new and improved rig as a result.

As a guide, I just had my diesel mechanic do a full rebuild on my Volvo 3cyl and the total cost was about $8k, including parts.

Have you been drinking? Last time I checked, staying afloat was a desirable trait in a boat.

+1, totally agree. I did a similar thing a few years ago with an old 42fter and I've got the receipts, results and fun credits that prove it. There's a lot of false assumptions about what things cost, and what effort is involved to achieve it and what individuals desire. There's an saying in my industry (process outsourcing) that I live by and that applies to most commercial decisions we make in life, Price, Quality, Time - pick two. I.e. if you want a job done to the best price, you'll need to sacrifice either the quality or the time taken, if you want a job done of the highest quali

If that's the mob up in silver dale I completely agree.

US navy finds wreck of missing yacht Cheeki Rafiki
tuffyluffy replied to sailinghigh's topic in MarineTalk
Is there an easy way to determine whether your keel bolts are stainless or monel? I've just assumed mine were stainless but they could easily be monel and I'd be keen to find out especially after the doom and gloom pics here! -

Only from a mate that did a rough Fastnet on one. Owner wasn't concerned because 'it was common' on that model. Havent searched/confirmed it myself but I'll have a look. The pics above seem to show rust on the aft bolt which maybe a symptom of it -

Apparently water comes through the keelbolts on these things when the backstay is cranked on. Hardly desirable. -
Be careful of that Ross 35, its often used for sheep and cattle storage in rainy weather according to the meteorologists.

Nope, but you can buy 10,000 'Likes' for about US$150 if you want to get really serious about self promotion

Take a look at Westpark marina in West Auckland, quite a few liveaboards out there and a regular ferry to the CBD. BTW, great thread!!

+1. That looks beautiful! Old skool woodies are just gorgeous.

I had a look at her when the Marshall deal looked like it would fall through. They wanted 198K then. Very tidy (and fast) boat with not much to do that I could see... It was about 06 that i was shopping, hence it was a while ago. I subsequently heard she sold for $85K back then, and from what your saying, someone has spent some coin on her since then. I was gutted when i heard she'd sold for 85 because it would have been a great project at $85, but not so at $150. From memory, i think the old owner had some businees/debt issues and creditors were involved with the sale at that tim

Bluudy hell! Wasnt she on the market for about $250 - 300k a few years back? I seem to recall when i was shopping for a reasonble 40+fter she was on the market at that price. I think back then Urban Cowboy? (Ross 40 in Tga) was on the market for $150k , but in need of major work.

As ive just mentioned to AC on techtalk, about 12-18 months ago i bought some raymarine gear from www.marinedeal.com and saved 30+%. They even followed up with a phone call to ensure everything arrived and i was happy! Very impressed i was. I dont know how they compare on other bits.
