herald ban?

Recommended Posts

Team New Zealand’s event arm has banned the New Zealand Herald from the America’s Cup media centre after a disagreement over the use of copyright race video.

The ban is thought to be the first of a media company at a major sporting event in New Zealand, and follows nine months of frosty relations between the America’s Cup defender, and the paper.

Team New Zealand took the move after it said video productions made by the Herald repeatedly used more race footage than allowed under rights agreements which media companies sign.

The defender said the paper also used copyright images of its race boat in its own advertising, and pointed to an ongoing frosty relationship

Good job.  The joke of a newspaper has been doing so much unnecessary sh*t stirring over the last year about ETNZ.

There is a difference between raising valid concerns over taxpayer money and click baiting with sensational headlines.

haha, apparently the main users of the media centre are herald + stuff

if herald are banned, stuff get it all to themselves, note the story above is by stuff

They would have been gone a lot earlier. TNZ tried to ban the Herald in December, but Luna Rossa took control of the media centre for the Prada Cup and allowed NZHerald to stay. Another reason TNZ doesn't like Luna Rossa any more.

Good job. We banned the Herald from our home years ago. Read about GD  in the local cafe and what a terrible person the Herald says he was/is  I must be a terrible person also because I really enjoy the spectacle provided by ETNZ and GD is an integral part of that. IMO the Herald is a 3rd class gutter rag and why they would pursue a hatchet job defies belief except their editorial policy/journos appear to be radically leftie woke socialist syncophants. GD is a toughie and I'm pleased he came out  of the hit job with his credibility intact. And he'll reap the benefits,as he should do, when ETNZ retain the AC. Be interesting reading the Herald when that happens. Maybe when it's used to wrap Fish'n'Chips !

Odd, cos us radical leftie woke socialist sychophants think Granny Herald is a capitalist clickbait property developer advertising flyer with the additional downside of having self-promoting opinion pieces by centre-right hacks and lurid talkback hosts flanking every advert for a DGZ Des Res house.

Potentially, we are both correct - the paper and its website are a mess of bullshit that would be an embarrassment if it was produced by a first-year journalism student let alone from what was once one of the leading publicaitons in the country.

If it's bullshit in the herald then isn't it also bullshit everywhere else?

nope.  Some publications have editorial integrity and can report a situation with appropriate and balanced coverage and/or without linking the reportage to a strapline like "What is (put name of situation here) going to do to your house value?"

not sure that many are widely considered 'fair + balanced' by both sides

i think 'the economist' is as good as it gets

but many on the far left consider it too focused on supporting business

and not enough on supporting; 'climate change initiatives', increasing diversity', 'addressing historical injustices' + 'wealth redistribution'

I'm intrigued to know who these mysterious publications are that you consider balanced?

BBC.  Stiff upper lip, but straight up.

New York Times (partially paywalled, but worth it)

The Guardian.  Telegraph for balance.

The Atlantic (paywalled, but worth it) for its long-form journalism

Al Jazeera, with provisos

Stuff - distinctly improved on its earlier incarnations

Newsroom has interesting mix of opinions and has added to  local investigative journalism

The Spinoff.  Its miles from balanced, but open about it and doesn't keep trying to sell me a house

No self respecting chip would allow itself to be wrapped in the Herald, shocking !

I was more referring to NZ papers. They long ago stopped printing items regularly from o'seas journos like Gwynne Dyer. Too much quality and accurate informative detail. RNZ = Red Radio

Sussed the BBC, NYT, TG, TA and Jazeera but no news in them at all just sh*t about sh*t that happens not around me or my locations. Many openly say they will only publish one side of some stories and not go near other subjects at all so hard to see any balance there.

So we get to NZ.

Stuff, the outlet that says on it's front page the same as many of those offshore ones do 'We have decided to tell you only what we want and it will be one sided'. Open and honest, yes but it also makes balance impossible.

Newsroom ?? Better than most generally but still has it's moments. Questionable whether it's a news outlet with commentary or it's a magazine type commentary with some news installed in it.

The Spinoff is less balanced than David Tarrent.
