Clive 13
Hi All, If I buy a new dinghy from Aus do I need to pay Duty/GST? I can't seem to find a definitive answer. Cheers, Clive.
tuffyluffy 76
Probably no duty to pay, but definitely yes to GST
Jon 407
Yes unless you sail in with it on your own boat then it's just part of your boat So just sail over and pick it up, you'll save either 15 or 20% plus the freight as well
Povnation 3
It depends on how much you spend. I thought the general rule was $400 or less and they don't usually bother because it is not economical to collect GST below $60. Although there are some exceptions. Kevin McCready 83
What a bloody waste of time GST is. Why oh why did we ever let this regressive stupid tax become part of the system? Oh I know - rogernomics.

Oh I know - rogernomics. Well if they didn't have GST, they might have to have a capital gains tax on rental properties... oh dear, never mind. Sorry about the thread drift. erice 732
might be a 5% duty on boats unless the oz origin changes things Binoculars 0 Boats 5 Books 0 http://www.customs.govt.nz/features/charges/feetypes/Pages/default.aspx If the amount to be paid to Customs is under $60, this will be waived, but if it’s $60 or more, you’ll have to pay any duty and GST plus an Import Entry Transaction Fee and MPI levy. http://www.whatsmyduty.org.nz/whats-my-duty you can do the paperwork yourself by walking all the receipts to customs on anzac st or pay a customs broker about $80? to do it for you back before gst, most imported items had import duties between 20-60%
Clive 13
Just having trouble buying the one I want here ... it's always nice to have an option.
ScottiE 174
If you go to Southern Inflatables direct, they'll pretty much custom make a dinghy to your spec. You need to stick to their standard hulls of course but you can mix and match the "extras" - a bit like buying a new car!
