ScottiE 174
I suspect Hugo boss has just hit something - stopped dead.
Battgirl 23
That is not looking good at all. Bugger!
ScottiE 174
Website reporting that he has just hit a calm patch. Was pretty sudden though
Battgirl 23
Whew! That's a relief less damage from a CP than a UFO
Battgirl 23
Alex should claw back some mileage in the Atlantic but Armel's got a fast boat, no damage we are aware of and damn good weather info
Romany 162
Did Thompson replace the bung foil yet? I realise the wind gods have not smiled on him in the last week, but seems that 1st is just squeaking away little by little. Pretty amazing performance by all. Delightful to see the joy on the face of these guys in WebTV broadcast on Xmas day.
raz88 96
It was in one of his updates the last couple of days that he's successfully retracted the broken one so that he doesn't have a stump poking out. The way the update went it seemed like he thought that was as good as he's going to get and there will be no replacement. However the expectation is that the remaining part of the race will be more starboard tack than port meaning he can use his remaining foil.
Battgirl 23
Conrad's done a video dressed as Santa which is good for a laugh. He's growing in stature all the time with his variety of escapades not to mention the fact he is sailing really well.
MarkMT 68
Since 6am on Dec 24 (NZT) to 5pm today, Thomson has gone from 820nm behind to 296nm behind. He's made up 100nm in just the last 14 hours. https://twitter.com/VendeeGlobe/status/813595778211934208

Island Time 1,247
Now 35.5!
Romany 162
It is staggering but seems a bit of a lottery. It would be fascinating to know how much input the weather routers have - you'd have to believe its a lot Not tryin to take anything away from Thompson (as if I could!) but Le Cleac'h seemed to sail into the wall. Hugos turn now.
raz88 96
My understanding is that they're not allowed to receive routing advice as that's considered outside assistance and the whole idea of the VG is around the world unassisted. So they access forecast data and route themselves...
Kestrahl 6
It looks like BP8 had nowhere to go and HB carried the breeze to the east of him a bit longer but now may be sailing into a even bigger light patch than BP8. But who knows, go HB! When does it update again!!
MarkMT 68
I think 5pm is the next one.
raz88 96
Tracker currently shows BP8 doing 9ish knots and HB doing 3, so looks like Alex has hit the light patch and Armel is back in a bit of breeze again. Good that it's close again.
ScottiE 174
Just 29nm now but HB is about 20nm east of BP with the high moving west to east. BP has just picked up speed while HB is slow. Next 24 hrs will be very interesting. Game On!
ScottiE 174
Ha beat me to it Raz
