Murky 1
The new sirens went off here as I was dropping the kids off at school just after 8. Gotta feel sorry for the teachers, having to evacuate the school while everyone is in mid-arrival mode. At that stage the water in the Ngunguru Estuary was already visibly starting to bounce around. Murky 1
Is it just me or does it seem like the Shakey Isles are getting more jelly like lately? With you on that BK. The question in my mind is: is this a process of settling down from something, or building up to something? Can follow the sea level gauges here: http://www.geonet.org.nz/tsunami/ Can see it's hit Raoul already with a height of about a metre Showing activity at North Cape now. Fogg 427
Do you reckon anything is likely to happen down at Westhaven with a possible 60cm-1m surge?
Murky 1
Hasn't done in the (recent) past, AC. Typically - thinking here of the Japan, Chile and Samoa ones - they have gone off here through to the BOI, Gulf Harbour, Whitianga etc. Also Ruthes Passage in the case of the Japan one. But I can't recall anyone ever saying they noticed it in Westhaven - in fact it is usually the opposite comment ("why trigger the warning system when nothing happened here?"). A connected set of events or just coincidence??
Guest
Nothing new, just the communications have improved, not many years ago an earthquake in the Kermadecs would have gone totally unnoticed.

Are you factoring in the Hawkes Bay, Auckland and Taupo activity of the past week into that view, Squid? Not saying I know anything about the topic - because I don't - just that it's becoming quite a lot to ignore.

Not saying I know anything about the topic - because I don't - just that it's becoming quite a lot to ignore. When I first heard about the Taupo Earthquake on the radio, they had an expert on who was explaining that they have one 2-3 times per year. They were of the opinion that this was a normal occurrance but since Christchurch, people are now on edge when it comes to Earthquakes. *It's called the ring of fire for a reason.
