  1. Hmmmm an interesting thread with some passionate views. Here’s my two cents worth. First cent. Overfishing in the Hauraki Gulf is symptomatic of the global overfishing problem. Too many people (7.8 billion of us) wanting to eat more fish than is sustainable. Our species is like a plague of locusts consuming everything on the planet. We are aided in this by continuing advances in technology: from bone fishhooks to hardened steel ones, from small wooden waka to ocean going factory trawlers. Second cent.   2. In 1968 Andy Warhol said "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes" I think that future is well and truly upon us. Post your sailing photos here and they might end up as the crew banner for a few weeks, at the end of the year we'll have a vote for the best one and the winner will get a bottle of the sailors currency and galaxy wide recognition at the rum race prizegiving.   4. Some of my favorites from the last few years. Rogue Anchored in Menora near the start of our voyage from France to NZ and Motorboat II in the 2019 coastal classic. Poles apart in what they represent but both highlights in my life.

  5. Air NZ and Unilever are not lead and staffed by career bureaucrats. Promotion from industry avoids that too. Real world experience, frowned upon by current government, has benefits in management but conflicts too much with the dream.
