  1. I think the key is that going forward you need to stay on top of your boat - regular slime control so they don't foul. Regular haul outs etc. you need to also think very carefully about what sort of anti foul you want to put on your boat. All anti fouls are bad - clearly by definition - so if you think that you're going to just scrub off by diving once a month or so - you need to think about whether you go for an epoxy copper coat type product or a biocide, or some other new fangled sh*t! READ THE TIN!
  2. is this the one? http://oceansignal.com/products/edf1/ http://www.amazon.com/Ocean-Signal-RescueME-Electronic-Distress/dp/B00X8SYW5U
  3. I've been wondering the same thing. I started researching this but decided I had other more basic boating demands to resolve first. Got as far as for calculating typical demands, storage and and charging requirements. But it does seem to me that you could get rid of the start battery and rely on one house battery, for my little demand anyway. The Li-Io batteries in Ferrari's link suggest that they are capable of both deep cycle usage down to 100% and CCA for starting. But sh*t they are expensive - setting up a battery system as IT describes, with vigilance, resulting in a 10 year life f
  4. looks like it was pretty good going for most of it Ken - helped to have kept you warm!
  5. Hi Mark, The whole governance structure of AT as a CCO is quite different to that of the council itself. The stated objectives are quite different. Its the thin wedge getting thicker. Among other things the harbourmaster's office administers a) the harbour bylaw moorings etc. As a mere department under a CCO it will now be expected to return a dividend. How did you suspect it will do that for these two examples?
  6. Yeh - I'd say we've all got one of these. Had my suspicions a few ,on the back when I bought the new mooring cause they were mucking about with their website but wouldn't tell me what was going on at the time. So the Act which establishes Auckland Transport's existence clearly states its purpose - "39 Purpose of Auckland Transport The purpose of Auckland Transport is to contribute to an effective, efficient, and safe Auckland land transport system in the public interest. Section 39: substituted, on 1 November 2010, by section 31 of the Local Government (Auckland Council) Amendment Act
  7. Anyone know when, how and why this came about? Fascinating that our council can simply change the justiction of an entity out from direct council control to now be under the control of a CCO. All seemingly without any significant notice (at least none that I can recall seeing)
  8. Forgive my ignorance BP but I also find your example odd. So BP was built in NZ, I'm going to assume domiciled in NZ for your example to be relevant, sailing the scout trips in NZ that drew the attention of, presumably, the NZ govt, and in order to legalise said scout trips he got the boat registered in . . . Vanuatu. Why register in Vanuatu and not . . . NZ?
  9. Odd that it was built here but registered offshore? Is there a tax issue there? I wonder if the answer is as straightforward as "no".
  10. sorry - I probably drifted that. I didn't appreciate that you had some built in. Was just suggesting that if you're doing a bunch of fixes that you might want to add that in to the mix as well.
  11. The render of it sailing over the top of the Maltese Falcon says it all!
  12. Yup http://www.raymarine.com/view/?id=1836 The control head, flux gate compass and actuator are all separate. Bench test went okay right up to the point when I realised I don't have the bulkhead socket. 45 squid out of the UK at this stage.
  13. Interesting - I got given an old hardly used ST4000 a few years ago. Was going to fit it to Euphoria this winter just to hold course but now I think it'll go good on the new boat. Full up with a cold at the moment so might bench test it tonight rather than go down to the boat.
  14. We discussed this build here a few years back circa 2009-10. I recall a few quite good drawings being put forward- can't remember if it was Booger (ex Borderline) or the Charleston brothers who put up the best pics. If your rudders are well built and of carbon then don't bother replacing the side panels. The rudders themselves should be strong enough to span the gudgeons - at last that's my view. I always remember U2 having a continuous issue with cracking the case sides and in the end he just cut the back of them out to allow them to twist with the rudder - problem dissapeared. I built m
  15. I've got the GBE Euphoria on Trade Me. Lots of oportunity and the GBE ticks all your boxes. PM if your interested - there are a few interested in her though so don't muck about!
  16. I'd be keen. If you want we could do it under the NZMYC umbrella as one of our 'open to the public' club nights - ala the Dick Newick, VPLP, Burling+Tuke talks that we've done. Let me know and we'll tee it up.
  17. TL - given the latter statement, and the fact that the current regs are in line for update, it does give you the oportunity to discuss your issues with a multi inspector and see if there is a modification that can be proposed.
  18. IT - aren't you somewhat pessimistic? Physics dictates that it will be self-equibrilating and at some point in the futre and the human population will evolve differently (perhaps devolve for a time) until some point where upon the planet can then sustain the newly evolved human population which can the go on to evolve, procreate and f*ck up the planet again. We are merely testing the boundaries further then previouse plagues etc ever did!

    LPG Gas Setup

Cheers - that's the conclusion I arrived at too. Just can't fit two bottles in the one locker but have another idea

    LPG Gas Setup

Trying to get my head round a versatile setup for on board gas. I want to run a 4kg bottle for cooking. I'd like to be able to run the galley cooker and the bbq in the cockpit at the same time. I'd also like to run the bbq either off the boat with the same bottle or in the other hull if necessary. The bbq has a line and regulator attached, as does the. The cooker line. Seems to me that I need Some sort of double tee that I can screw on to the bottle that makes use of both regulators. Does that exist? I appreciate that something like that could be potentially unsafe if I ran the bbq only
  21. Agree with you entirely on the funding, GD, and especially Dana J - can't stand her articles! I usually read them - go for a walk and a coffee, take a long breath and re-read them for the single fact that the sh*t is written around!
  22. fundamentally - we lost because of a design flaw / misinterpretation of the rule, and a shooking management decision. One out of two of those heads is now gone - the other brings in the moolah which has probably saved his bacon in front of the board. As for the sailing team - there was no room in a starting line up of six for Ashby, Burling, Tuke and Barker and unfortunately the last on that list didn't feel he was ready to move to a training role. Just business decisions being made by the head of the business. A shame - but that's just the way it has to be for the business to survive

    Antifoul options

TL did you strip the boat right back first or use a tie coat. Wondering how re applying over original application will go. Just about finished 'de-fouling' and then the decision will be what to do next.

    Antifoul options

I've got ultra on Euphoria and it cleans up pretty well but does need a wipe down once month at a minimum - ideally fortnightly. Ballistic has/had coppercoat and I'm thinking of sticking to that.
