Depending on the state of the surfaces 3m Super 77 spray glue can work well for trim fabrics. Spray both faces and let it tack off a bit before retouching the surfaces. Using a roller of some type also helps to squish the surfaces together.
  3. I had this conversation with an inspector a month or two ago. It would be interesting to compare the Cat3 requirements from say 1985 to the requirements now and just see what extra stuff has been added to the list, and what has been dropped. I know one of the requirements was you were not allowed to rely on GPS for navigation and had to carry a lead line for depth sounding, now you have to have 2 GPSs and a proper depth sounder! Has anyone got an old NZYF book from way back then so we can do some comparisons?
  4. I know its great weekend and are really keen to participate, however there are a few other not-yachting things going on that may preclude my entry status that are yet to be sorted. And besides, and probably just as important, if there is any downwind stuff going on I still haven't finished my new furly screecher yet! Then I have to find a decent furling unit to help tame it.
  5. subject to a few things the VB could well be into this.. how late do the entries close?
  6. Time will tell. IT or BP will probably know them, after all how many Dougs with an interest in boating could possibly live on the Hibiscus Coast

If they weren't inflatable boards I probably would have had words, it was fun to watch the interesting variety of er, techniques - some people have a knack of making quite simple things look very difficult.

What ya glueing? A quick look at the specs and Im thinking Bostik 999 is about the same, Ive got heaps give me a call.
  9. Very similar to another instance of "importing" by a guy called "Sir Thomas Lipton Fry" - His actual name as changed by deed poll. He bought a friend of mines boat and as it turned out was planning to do this same thing but got caught/arrested. When I met him on the boat during the owners handover I thought its was a bit odd that Mr Fry showed me plans for a boat he was going to have built - a 150ft super yacht which left me wondering how someone from a small rural town south of Taupo have the necessary $$ for such a project . It seemed the refit to make enough space for all of the extra "car
  10. I have changed nothing since last time I managed to actually post a pic and only had this happen while away cruising and I wanted to post a pic from the iPad - funnily enough a picture of Coromandel - it didn't work and i just thought it was the iPads fault.
  11. Just had another go, even when the photo jpg is reduced to 640Kb I get the same response... can't upload into the Gallery either
  12. Yes Mac using Sierra, also couldn't do it with iPhone or iPad all on latest versions of OS and Safari. Files to be uploaded were jpg of about 1MB
  13. IT when I try to attach a picture the following happens: Initially the Choose Picture button is there , I click that and select the file I want to upload as per usual and all looks like it is working, the file name etc shows but when I do the "Attach this File" clicky the Choose Picture clicky button and the file details all disappear and nothing happens. Same result when I try the advanced Flash 9 downloader. Using Safari 10.0.2 Any suggestions? The file size is well under the max 2MB.
  14. The Harbourmaster at Coro was seen out regularly patrolling bays on a Jetski when we were there. There was this one particular dilemma for him in our bay - when you swim into the beach from the launch you don't need a life jacket, when you take the inflatable dinghy you do, but what about when you take your inflatable unicorn??
  15. He has had a long involvement in work to develop professional regulatory practice in New Zealand. This is the bit of the article that scares me the most
  16. Depends if it has a fence around it or lifeguards on station
  17. Have a quick look - there might be an inflatable fence there to go around it too.
  18. IT I would suspect the lack of yacht club after-match support stems from a bit of "driving home check-point phobia" more than anything else. I wanted to unleash VB last night but had a few last minute customer requests to sort.
  19. That one has been "sinking" twice every day at high tide for at least the last six months, it seems to float ok when the tide is out though.
  20. The bigger question is why go cruising where its cold enough to have to deploy a heater, really?? Ive spent a lot of time in Stewart Island and the southern outying islands but that was working on a commercial fishing boat and while I would consider cruising Stewart island in the summer I can't see any benefits and/or enjoyment being in those latitudes or anywhere that a heater is required. If you want to see icebergs glance in the freezer while filling your glass before conjuring up a nice mojito or something. Whats more when its that cold the butter is hard too spread on toast and Ive nev
  21. Awesome, some great commentary Im sure a lot of people will find useful. Ill come and see you after xmas.
  22. Further to this, there are a lot of different brands, makes models etc, which one do you have experiences with (good and bad) and untimately recommend should you ever have to replace what you have.
  23. Now that the kids are going to be doing more of there own thing on weekends and xmas cruising etc Mrs VB is getting a bit tired of pulling up the anchor so we have decided its time to buy a red button on a remote so it can pull the anchor up for us. Looking at the options there are two main types - a conventional rope/chain capstan and a drum winch type thingy. Given they have similar engine wattage etc - so must have the same pullness - explain to me which is better and why. We use a chain/rope combination and being a cat we tend to park where its shallow (under 5m). It will be mounted mids
  24. Better cloth? What fabric did they quote you in, and would you really know if its Dimension/Polyant, Bainbridge or some other cheap chinese crap anyway. It would be interesting to compare it with genuine manufacturer supplied sample swatches.
  25. This has to be a first for granny Herald - a marine drama/rescue type story and no mention of lifejackets at all in the article.
