  1. As an inspector I’d suggest you get a boatbuilder to do a little exploration, remove some of the glass and see if the corrosion is surface or crevice ? This will dictate your next action, document / photo this process as this will help with insurance and certification etc going forward. Plus an insurance company and safety inspector will accept a qualified boatbuilders recommendation ‘If they need to come out and be rebuilt your still then able to do either all or some of this work but follow the professional advice

    Route 66 2024

Spoke to Steve yesterday, he said in his previous yacht he would have been trying to avoid the squalls to prevent roundups However in the Pogo he was looking for them as it just powered up and accelerated forward, the little Elliott was on a different league and apparently they didn’t have the water ballast working. Lots of much bigger boats behind them

Got asked to go two up with Steve but couldn’t make it looks like a top effort for a euro trash production boat
  4. Hybrid as in the new HH44 I think is looking promising, but they can still only motor at 5kts ish
  5. In Marsden Cove according to PredictWind AIS
  6. Rapido 40 #07 has arrived in New Zealand!! It's all electric with Oceanvolt and is the first Rapido 40 to have a helm wheel. This is the second Rapido to be based in New Zealand. Rapido 60 #02, Romanza, is in Auckland. #allectric, #helmwheel, #rapido40, #oceanvolt from bookface
  7. Hauled out at Port Whangārei Marine Centre last week for 5 days Half the price of last haul in Auckland

    Sail repairs

Where’s the boat ? there’s lots of options but best get someone close to boat
  9. Hi I’m sailing my 50’ yacht solo up to Whangārei leaving Sunday morning from Westhaven, possibly straight through however may stop at Kawau. To be hauled out early Wednesday. Short notice but if anyone wants to come for a ride let me know, you would need to find your own way back 0274779745
  10. PR, yes weather is actually more predictable by then May is just the first chance, can be rather wait and see some years, last year it was the best window mid to late May we left 10th June, traditional the correct time and had an interesting trip plus last year the weather was best in Fiji from mid July onwards anyway Let me know if you need someone to do your Cat 1 if that’s what your doing
  11. Generally shipping stays outside of the Poor Knights, Mokohinau, Barrier and Cuvier unless they are heading into a port There aren’t any dedicated shipping lanes as such in NZ (that I know of) Ships are required to give way to sailing vessels unless within harbour limits or restricted by a shipping channel

    Orca at Motuihe

Last week at Deep Cove Coromandel
  13. And both had lots of experience aboard Which proves sh*t happens
  14. As a safety inspector I can check your prep and equipment easily however I can only take a guess at your leave of stupid, if you have none you wouldn’t get out of bed in the morning and if you have extreme you probably never went to bed. Everyone that goes offshore needs some stupid but it’s generally experience that determines the outcome, however we all need to use up some stupid to gain experience IMHO
  15. Plus boats and crews in organised events tend to be much better prepared But saying that there will be another Weather is a mix of pattern and chaos.
  16. This is a great course, run by people that have been there and done it I did it earlier this year https://www.livesaildie.com/dr-daves-offshore-medical-course-the-best-medical-course-you-can-do/
  17. Get it surveyed And get it surveyed
  18. Here’s another 5min job that’s only taken 2 months

    SailGP

Maybe the council could have put up some signs as follows Don't Drink the Harbour Water (it’s most likely contaminated with human effluent) Don’t Eat the soil under the grandstand (it’s most likely contaminated with petrochemicals)
  21. From my understanding it’s not a pre purchase survey more a condition report I had the same thing when I asked for an offshore extension to my Vero policy then they changed their mind and said a Cat 1 certificate was all I needed So if you have had a Cat 3 for say coastal done then try them with this ?
  22. No but saying that the number of people we met in Fiji this year in cats mostly, that said ‘we motor or motorsail always on passage” surprised me ‘There doesn’t seem to be the level of sailing skills in the cruising fleet that you would expect
  23. The organising authority decides the CATEGORY of races they run, they need sign off from YNZ but they (YNZ have very little current knowledge on running keelboat events. Advanced Sea Survival is a standard set by world sailing, I did my 4th one earlier in the year where a 2hr online refresher would have been just as much use. Just to give you a bit of warning Razz, SSANZ is now organising a Two Handed Northern Triangle for 2025 (only 15months away). It will be Cat 3 plus AIS and a qualifying race/passage required, have stopovers at Mangonui and Marsden Cove. Be a total

    NZ Registration

As Booboo said, it is usually done in a few days at the NZ end. They probably just have that statement to cover any outlying issues The old owners usually need to do the deregistration and then get that to you, this can take time depending upon where it’s currently registered
