  1. I like the sound of being somewhere warm next winter, hell of a party shaping up too. I have spoke to friends in Melbourne who are planning to do the Oz Noumea which starts at the same time. Mostly average 40 footers from there by the sounds of things.
  2. Anyone doing this 2up saw the ad tonight looks interesting with the staggered start.
  3. https://www.sunlive.co.nz/news/156332-port-company-slams-blockade.html "It is understood that Hauraki affiliated iwi are pushing for a seat on the Tauranga Moana Governance Group currently comprising Ngai Te Rangi, Ngati Ranginui, Ngati Pukenga, plus four representatives from the three local authorities and one from the crown."
  4. Absolutely, agree with the cause not necessarily the method. But if their conventional protests have fallen on deaf ears it is surely a good way to get some attention.
  5. A new kind of crazy here. Seems they are protesting against Chris Finlayson doing a secret deal, if true I'm on their side. http://sunlive.co.nz/news/156323-iwi-blocking-harbour-entrance.html "The protest is not aimed at the Port of Tauranga, but instead aims to assure the Prime Minister and Minister of Treaty Negotiations that Ngai Te Rangi will not accept any Crown deal that gives rights to Tauranga Moana to a Hauraki Collective of iwi and hapu"
  6. You wouldn't want to run flooded or AGM batteries to 80% DOD or they would be expensive paperweights in no time.

    Bilge pumps

Funny very different bilges indeed, Strangely enough I am now on my 5th keelboat and the last 4 have had only manual pumps, mainly because of dripless seals on the engine shaft (or no shaft) and very shallow bilges. The first boat had a lovely deep bilge and all the water ran to a sump where the pump was, so an electric pump made sense. With the more modern shallow or non existent bilge a sponge is usually all that is required.

  9. Possibly enroute at the moment. Arbitare was at Tauranga Marina for a while but has left again, i'm guessing headed south.
  10. It's actually been on the SSANZ website for quite a while now. That is the best website for SSANZ news strangely enough.
  11. Wasn't a facebook user myself until a couple of years ago, it all seemed a bit gay. I have become a covert, not because I have a need for heaps of made up friends but because it is the best way to quickly reach a large audience, I am constantly amazed how fast news travels and where some of the posts turn up. By the end of the RNI even on the page for our old sled each post was reaching over a thousand people. Now I'm not as old as KnotMe, pretty sure he was first mate to Noah but it really isn't that hard you don't have to participate but you are missing out on a lot of really good cont
  12. A bit of lighthearted safety messaging
  13. Yes running LiFPO from AAsolar, wouldn't go back to FLA for love or money. No BMS so the battery monitor is a need rather than a want. One of the most impressive things is how fast they charge take all the alternator can give until they are full.
  14. Nice video of the Marshall's trip, must stitch all our random clips together at some stage. Amazed seeing the amount of breeze you had at cape Turnagain we were pretty much becalmed a few miles south and carried our awesome patch of no wind all the way to Napier.
  15. Our Votronic is good so far have had it about 8 months, german made, they do compensate for Peukets law depending what battery type you have. Of course Lithium don't require this and some monitors don't have a specific Lithium Setting. They are very simple to install as everything is pretty much pre wired just connect the shunt between the earth and the battery negative and plug in the single cable between the shunt and the monitor. I was a bit suspicious of them initially because of the very reasonable price but pretty impressed so far. Nice to be able to check the current drain and wo
  16. Nice one, I was thinking Cav30. Definitely the same lines as the 30 and 36.
  17. Sounds like a load of shite. Fortunately after changing to lithium batteries we no longer need to plug the race boat into shore power. Should also have the cruising boat converted by the time the EWOF expires on that.
  18. Thought as much, I was trying to think of a reason someone would want two original 70's cruisers. Seem to be asking big dollars for them they must have a good rep. http://www.theyachtmarket.com/boats/sailing-boats/hallberg-rassy/53/
  19. Yes but in this instance you are overcoating 2pot with single pot.
  20. Pretty sure they get progressively longer, the next one is probably 200 followed by a 250 RNI qualifier the year after that. But I'm guessing you know that already.
  21. Are you sure about that Wheels? Would have thought it best to let the interprotect cure so no thinners are left and then sand prior to topcoat. I know some people don't like Toplac but I have always found it really nice to use as a brush on product, I always use precoat under it however. If I was spraying I would go with 2 pack but it is a lot more expensive. Oh yes and definitely give the international paints guys a call very helpful.
  22. Gutted we missed it but my crewmate is not currently a well man. Guess you will be doing the 2 handed series this winter then Bazza?
