PIC Coastal Classic 2016 - solo division, seminar for new entrants
Battleship replied to Zoe's topic in RaceTalk
Found the top yacht interface pretty clunky and unintuitive. I imagine some people will struggle with it. -
Most likely you need to set the permissions to allow for public viewing of your google photos.

I overheard a rescue attempt by the coastguard on the VHF late one night, the coastguard were unsuccessfully trying to take a yacht in tow near Karewa Island off Tauranga, over VHF 16 the police as a proxy for maritime nz ordered the skipper to abandon the vessel, he told them to take a hike, stayed on board and eventually got into the harbour. Don't know what happened to him but what can they do?

Nice choice, I did the TY Nationals on a Catalina on lake Taupo and we won our division, it,s the one being towed by a truck at the beginning of the retro video. My Father was a partner in the company that built them a very good design. Because of the way the ballast is done they are still self righting with the board up. Have fun. -
Nice one "Whakatane Coastguard president Jim Williamson says today the boat does have a VHF radio but it was not working. “He had battery problems, and you can't get stuff fixed around the coast because there isn't no place to fix it. He's done brilliantly. He's done everything right. He hasn't done anything wrong.” Commenting on claims Darius has little sailing experience, Jim pointed out that Darius successfully sailed from Napier to Whakatane round East Cape in rough weather. “He's got plenty of experience now,” says Jim. “More experience than 80 per cent of the Auckland yachties

Looks like someone has spent a lot of time and money making it into a heap of sh*t.

Yeah I like the Rapido apart from the helm position, would work ok in Thailand but I would want to move/change it for our conditions. As for the big vodaboat.

That Tri is still around it's now called Vodafone, one of my favorite clips by the way.

Nice find recognised quite a few boats and people on that one. Funny I thought 1994 wasn't that long ago until now.

Sounds like Flipper, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flipper_(1964_TV_series)

Listen to Booboo he's the resident expert, my thoughts would be that you definitely need shape unless you never need to sail upwind.

The added bulb would actually make it better for the OP's intended use by the sound of things. -
Works well on a smaller boat with a lightweight pole, can get the bag up real quick. can sometimes be a bitch getting it back in on the end of the boom and can also hook up on runners if you have them. Would be interested to hear how it works out on a larger boat, can't remember seeing this on a fully funded race (TP52) boat in the days of poles so there must be a point at which it becomes impractical.

If you want to do some sailing and get anywhere save the some more money and buy the Ross boat, If you are happy to motor a lot and or have no deadlines the Trojan is fine. The Ross boat = fun to sail. -
Cant disagree. Everything is going up, along with more rules and increasing compliance costs it sure is killing the market.

I didn't think it was to bad, although we did have leaky rum bottles and once it all drained out I couldn't keep my eyes open.

+1 , What he said

Really pleasant conditions including the aftermatch at Issy Bay, not sure what time i crashed but it was early and didn't know a thing until 5 in the morning. Beat the rain and wind back to Tauranga with a pleasant downwind slide in 15 knots of breeze to get all tied up by 11 p.m Thanks SSANZ committee, the photographers and videographers.

Don't forget your earmuffs and hangover cure if you are parked close to Booboo.
