  1. Watch out for pagets rock in man o war passage sometimes the marker isn't there. Take plenty of anchor rode as it gets deep quick. I Haven't had any trouble with holding in smokehouse but have dragged a bit in Fitzroy and Forestry Bay. Some great walks around the Island. Take plenty of provisions as the store is expensive although has most things if you are stuck. Go to the boat club for a beer. Whangaparapara is worth a visit and a coffee stop at the Motel. If you get down to Tryphena the Stonewall Store is a great stop also.

    Any more photos?
  3. Long overdue cockpit makeover for Berenice, next is the transom. From this to this
  4. Not sure making them compulsory would make them cheaper, the best option of course would be to keep the original rudders attached to the boat but some times stuff happens. Most systems are just to get the boat near enough to a port so a tow can be organised and wouldn't be expected to be terribly accurate. There has, I believe been a spate of Euro boats with Alloy ruder stocks getting electrolysis and having issues. Not so common in this part of the world but could happen here with all the imports coming in.
  5. I have a feeling he was referring to me not liking his design. I thought he defended it well and made some good points, then I saw that comment (which I can assure you is far from the truth) and is an assumption based on his own prejudices.
  6. I missed this bit from his post. What a dick. "Obviously every forum attracts smart arses and detractors. Like here in the UK many people talk about their sailing rather than actually doing it."
  7. Is that a Morgan? Very cool regardless.
  8. Good that he got back to you and seems enthusiastic about his product, wonder how well it would work in waves? I notice the mechanno brackets have been beefed up with some tubing in the PBO test. Still not confidence inspiring for me. Try this instead http://www.burkemarine.com.au/pages/seabrake
  9. I think this is what happens when you attach a cat to your mooring.
  10. I don't think it's an option because it looks so piss weak. I think if you were serious about it proper gudgeon's on the stern would prove far superior. I'd still go with a drogue rather than that option not as accurate for steering but at least it wouldn't fold under the boat. Having spoken with people who have had to resort to the board on a spinnaker pole solution, apparently it doesn't work very well.
  11. Looks pretty flimsy in the photos, would probably work ok in calm conditions but I think there are better options.
  12. Yes Australia II had the Bulbed Wing keel. I sailed on the Gretel in the Whitsundays quite a few years ago she was definately a much older late 60's design with a fullish keel. Beautiful sailing boat. http://classics.robbeberking.de/en/angebote/gretel.php
  13. The headlining on the old Cav36 was very pretty, Mahogany tends to be quite heavy though.
  14. Lucky these Guys just hit a mark, you'd think once they couldn't see they would back off immediately. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=7a0_1441620154#ydfLHifK76UpCgVe.01
  15. That too Costra, seems to be less and less going up to the club afterwards, I always go to do my bit but difficult for those with families.
  16. A stress free sail gets boring pretty quick for a race crew, also said crew have family commitments etc. so keeping the time on the water as short as possible keeps them coming along as it's easier to justify to the other half.
  17. This may help http://www.weiti.co.nz/race-events/bt-shorthanded-series/
  18. Thinking of bringing Berenice up to do the R66 single handed sounds like a lot of fun.
  19. More info here very cool. http://rbsailing.blogspot.co.nz/2015/06/magic-bus-back-in-new-zealand.html
  20. Hmm I cant seem to send you messages either. Hopefully you got the number
  21. Yep a bottle of Rum is the asking price, It's in Tga is the only catch. Whoever wants it can have it.
  22. I have an old Navik windvane if you are interested, could be had for a bottle of something. Came with my old Cav 36 but was never used needs a repair to the Rudder I think. Let me know if you are interested. It has just been taking up space for the last 6 years. Similar to this one http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f137/for-sale-navic-wind-vane-800-a-30834.html
  23. If people cut down on trips or ceased fishing it would certainly make my weekends a lot nicer:) However I don't see how recreational fishing is of much value to Government other than recreational fishers vote, if it disappeared people would just spend their disposable income on something else surely? Commercial fishing income however does at least bring in much needed overseas funds which helps the economy no end, so is of infinitely more value and a better use of resource, despite what we may think of their methods.
  24. We had a similar situation a couple of weeks ago. Lots of tide dragging boats past the mark and very little wind. I find instead of pushing through on a marginal call it is usually easier just to dip and carry on. Often the boats that miss time the mark roundings are getting a bit hot under the collar and will argue the point rather than give room so there is no gain anyway.
