  1. A bog standard pilkington GBE centerboard? I have skinny boards and want to build some semi permanent sleeves to fill the standard cases. I'll only need it for an hour or so, just to get templates knocked up. Cheers, Aaron
  2. Yep, sure was! As good as those boards look, they broke and the hulls are undamaged. They are certainly nowhere even close to the strength we had in the foils for the '14. That said, we could stand two full grown large adults on the end of the skiff 'board and jump up and down. Lots. Frequently! Oh the joys of skinny boats and muddy river bottoms! And on a very windy day in Doubtless bay we jumped of a wave and the sideways impact sheared the rudder frame clean off the back of the boat. In retrospect we probably should have had weaker foils Unfortunately the guy who built them way bac
  3. Beautiful weather and a good forecast, an early afternoon start, and a couple of good mates. We left the little shoal bay mooring at about 11 and motored off towards eastern beach. Passing Okahu we saw Eric heading out, and gave him a wave. Motor off, and we keep good speed as the wind has finally arrived. We hoist the kite for the very first time, and for a few moments everything is perfect! But some kind soul decided to put a large rock in the way. The big one just a bit south of Bean. Luckily there doesn't seem to be any hull damage or leaks, but I do require so
  4. Are you not able to run the whole thing a little higher by just easing the tackline so it's above the pulpit? Alternatively you could hook the kite pole on to the tack and winch it to windward like a normal kite, but as BP says, it's a lot of extra work, probably not worth the hassle unless you're going the same way for a long time.
  5. Funnily enough, Whilst working on ways to make the gbe easily trailerable one of the ideas I had was a long centre pod which the (carbon) main and third beams could hinge from. Would run from just ahead of the forebeam all the way to the aft beam. The area forward of the mast could be used as a launching chute for the kite, with the mouth ahead of the jib. Could also house a retractable prod. I thought it would help stiffen things up a bit
  6. Does anyone have one of the old school ratchet blocks that everyone used to make? The ones with the integral cam cleat on the adjustable arms? Around 12mm rope size. Yes, I'm still de-evolving Euphoria!!
  7. We're planning to join in this weekend. A lot better weather than a month ago. Any thoughts on what boats we should be comparing ourselves to? Obviously the longer the legs the better for us, we still don't know how to turn corners. Will probably just take it easy on the starts and see if we can pick off the tail enders.
  8. Forgot to post this last night, here's the longer version. Still a big judgement call to decide who's really at fault. https://www.facebook.com/jachtsharki/videos/1174659865908486/?hc_location=ufi
  9. The cat has just tacked at that point. Pilot error. I'll upload the longer version when I get home
  10. Is the cat hove-to? Kinda looks like it just powered up momentarily at the wrong time.

Looks like we're pretty good at messing about in boats, and anything to do with Shots! 4 sailing medals and 3 kayak medals, not bad at all. Plus a shooter and a couple of shotputters.
  12. Can't resist saying this... "Owner relocating to Hawkes Bay." Selling as will be ill with Campylobacter for near future.

Don't jinx it! So far most of the "shoe in" medals have messed up, while the outsiders are grabbing the silverware en masse.
  14. Indeed it does. The whole thing makes no sense. Crap weather, no genuine experienced crew on board, somehow the rudder lost its grip on reality, and then the electronics packed up. Or the battery went flat, so the AP and lights wouldn't work. And what's with leaving 200L diesel onboard but nothing in the tank??
  15. Yes, well, I did spot that TM listing. Even my Euphoria-hating partner likes Krisis. In fact she ticks every box we have bar two. Doesn't fit on a trailer, Doesn't fit my limited budget. Damn.
  16. Looks good. the NZTYA has a horsepower requirement of 1/4 hp per foot, so 4hp on a 16foot, 5hp on a 20, etc. So may be a little small, but then again it is a 4 stroke, so may be ok.
  17. Interior space does not always equal comfort. here's an example... I am 6'2" and spent several week-long sailing/camping trips in my Noelex 22, and friends of ours had a sabre 20. We were often invited onto the Sabre as the friends thought it would be more comfortable, what with the bigger volume and all. Unfortunately, sitting on the nice comfy seats meant the wide side-deck/cabin corner was at neck height, so I couldn't relax. I had to sit bolt upright, and could not lean back at all. In the Noelex I could lounge on the seats, with my back against the wall, as the side-decks were onl
  18. I would recommend the noelex 22. Possibly a bit cramped but big cockpit, and if you get the top off model then they're great for summer. Small light rig and easy to handle on and off the water. Will also carry full sail in ridiculous amounts of wind so safe if you get caught out.
  19. yeah, you may be right. I don't fancy mixing it up on the start line with a bunch of big open division boats really.
  20. Has anyone seen the SI's for this? What time is Sunday's start? I've emailed BBYC but no response. Kinda hard to enter without the form peeps, and it's not like I can just rock up to the club and pick them up!
  21. Just full speed down the ramp and a hard right handbrake. Job done.
  22. Belongs to Rob, who crews with me on those rare occasions that I come racing. Has dealt with mast but not investigated it yet.
  23. Oh yes, I forgot to say that I'm not a member, but I do cough up whenever I see a charity drive for them, and/or the rescue chopper. Like I said, I think it would be great if they got funding from yacht clubs, fishing clubs, etc, And frankly would be quite happy to slip a little extra on my boat trailer rego to go their way.
