  1. Here's an idea, in regards to both Shanes comment, and the Takapuna beach "hostile takeover" in another thread. Instead of paying a not insignificant sum each year as a YNZ "Voluntary Levy" why don't clubs pay slightly less to the "Great view out the window but nothing for boaties" bunch, and give the difference to Coastguard? They deserve it a lot more than the other mob, and get no government funding. Plus they are there for all boaties, not just the olympic wannabes. Actually, I'm pretty sure even the Waka ama and Sea kayak groups would be willing.
  2. 2. Euphoria That's actually a short enough series that I'll be allowed out from my rock!
  3. Any more info? Like is it open to cats?
  4. I would take up PC (HarryTom)s offer too if I were in your position Shane. He's a bloody good sailor, and that's not something I say about many people. Straight up good guy, will help you out the best way he knows how.
  5. Ahhh, No! They got back to me a day or so after I made my offer saying they'd already chopped and burnt it all. So I guess I'll be staying Euphoric for a while longer yet. No drama, as I've mentioned elsewhere, I have a set of drawings to my own "Mental Octopus" design that should fulfil my wants perfectly. Must check my lotto tickets!
  6. A friend of mine has a beachcomber trailer. His boat lives on a mooring mostly, so will ask him for a quick measure up. I'm sure he could be bribed with some mt gay
  7. Ever noticed how the Taniwha seem to be ignored if the builders are chinese? Just sayin!
  8. Yeah, it's less than a k across the island there. That's probably not actually long enough if the ships get much bigger, could be too short to hold them. Speaking of the Mangere sewage works, they're doing an upgrade at present, supposed to have capacity for several million Aucklanders.
  9. Just thinking further, why build on existing land? If some of those asian countries can literally build land for airports etc, why can't we do it for a port? Or build an island/breakwater a few miles off the west coast, sheltering the Manukau entrance. Couple that with my canal idea, and ships can enter from either side, depending on where they are coming from. Now that could open up some real interesting race ideas! Start off orakei, out and around waiheke, through the canal (with a stop-over) then out through the manukau, around Mad island (Hey, my idea, my naming rights ) and
  10. Oops, my bad! I must've used the wrong grammar there somewhere. What I meant was "If the taxpayer isn't paying, then why shouldn't some private enterprise build something awesome and future-proof?" What I didn't mean was " Why aren't the taxpayer paying?"
  11. No thanks. It's you looking for a mooring, remember? I was just offering a possible solution to your problem. ExTL, thanks. I'm not in need of one, but was thinking that IF Dovetail wanted to park in my spot for a while, I could park in yours. The added bonus for me being that I could walk out to the boat when the tide was out after work to develop the interior. I'll keep your number tho, may want to rent it for a few weeks if no-one else does.
  12. Of course, there is no need for a port on the Manukau to be accessed from the west coast. Think outside the box... A short canal from the Otahuhu creek and it's all taken care of. Lock in and out according to the tides. Would even go right past the westfield trainyards, and if planned correctly could offload some FCL containers there, directly onto the rail system. One big bonus of that is the ships would all come and go together, leaving the water free for the rec. users like us. It would have to be a fat canal tho, big enough to hold a few superships at each tide. A second bonus
  13. Gopher Broke is parked right outside Kelly Tarltons at present, is that your mooring? My boat is on mine at present, but could look at switching around a bit as I need to get easier access to do some jobs on board.
  14. Hi guys, extl, how much sailing time does your mooring offer each tide? As a last resort Dovetail could use mine and I could use yours. I have about a metre at low tide, but would need weight added for a boat that big. Also little shoal bay. Slightly further inshore than most, quite protected by comparison even in a sw. Seems to be just inside the chop line. LK38
  15. If I read the OP right, the snapshackle closed end is at the furler, and it can be snapped on/off the bight? which could explain why there is no big block there without the furler. I'm guessing the eye splice will have a connector of some sort so it can be reverted back to single purchase when the furling gear is off. Is this Womble from Whangarei??
  16. They have the original hull and amas on tm at present. Going to be scrapped if nobody wants them. I've made an offer but it's gonna cost a bit to get them up here.
  17. I've had lots of boats insured with AMI and had a few claims. They've always paid out with no qualms. In one case they replaced my aging kite with a brand new one. I still have the trailer yacht with them, and would have the GBE with them if they would cover it.
  18. I'm sure there's a chemist that roams this site. Create a super slippery two part polymer that the critters can't grab onto. First part some kind of bonding agent, second part the slippery bit. Wouldn't wax slow your boat down?
  19. Erm, what do you do with the main when that's up? How much harder it would be to hang the tent under the boom instead of over the top? PS. it'll be 4 kids by summer cruise time!
  20. There's a 8m design by Ray Kendrick, the Scarab 8 which looks awesome, but I have a sneaky feeling that family won't let me build a new boat. I've also designed my own, which ticks all the boxes, and should perform ok, but the same rule applies!
  21. Does anyone know how she compares to a GBE in various weather? Strengths, weaknesses etc? It's no secret I was in the market for a tri before buying the cat, and as she's going to need work anyway, there's a chance of increasing the cabin size a bit to make her more family friendly. There's also a trailer listed on TM which may be suitable, which would give me the package I wanted initially, ie. a trailable fast tri, with some basic accommodation. Just asking, before I waste time and money heading out for a look if she's not even close to suitable.
  22. Jeez I thought no-one wanted it. Hadn't realised you had literally posted the moment I logged in!
  23. I'm in. Pm on the way.
  24. I can't help wondering whether you missed the point there HD... Your old toy just fell over near warkworth, hence the upside down sticker. At least, I think that's what Ed was referring to.
  25. Hey Greg, are both of those boats the 7.6? They are great looking boats! And why didn't these pics make it into the "old multi pics" thread? I know they're not old, but certainly good shots!
