  1. Hope you’re v well sheltered (from the SW) today - it’s blowing 50kts here in the city. I’m half expecting some trees down and power hiccups...
  2. Jeez that going to get even livelier out there where it’s blowing close to 50
  3. Under L4 dentists can still operate fir emergency treatment only (I’ve been 3 times in 2 weeks). Routine check-ups are a no-no at least until we get down to L3 if not L2 (we’ll know on Thursday exactly what is allowed in the newly detailed definitions on each alert level). So meanwhile hold off and say no thanks to a routine check unless you are in some kind of dental pain. Because if you do suddenly have a problem you will be classed as an emergency and will get priority treatment ASAP - probably same day as I did.
  4. Keep an eye on that scotch fillet, must be nearly done by now, don’t over-do it 😊
  5. Waiti Bay? Happy Easter btw! We just had our Easter Day lunch - similar you Christmas Day lunch but with chicken instead of a tougher drier version aka turkey. I’d struggle to recreate that on Aleana.
  6. AIS switched off / in stealth mode is an admission of guilt that people know what they’re doing is wrong.

    Anchor winch leak

See some sense and stop sailing upwind. And definitely stop putting the rail under.
  8. Probably combination of changing weather, dwindling provisions and boredom rather than a feeling of doing the right thing. They’ll probably be home tonight, do the laundry and then drive 200km to the beach house tomorrow.
  9. I think the weather forecast means a lot of the last 2 week’s Covid-cruisers will head home by tomorrow and suddenly decide life at home might be better after all.
  10. A liveaboarder’s view from the US. Here’s an incentive not to f@ck up our current situation by breaching L4 lock-down rules and driving and sailing around the place making up excuses about why our personal situation should make us exempt: They have locked us down here in San Diego now. No gathering, no sailing, no driving unless you are on a mission, and have paperwork to show what your doing. I have a piece of paper that allows me to drive around for work, I am lucky to be considered "essential services" in this area. Most people are no longer working around here. The marina (Chula Vista

  14. Sorry I don’t know about Westhaven. My post was about Gulf Harbour’s policy. That’s what I meant when I said I spoke to “GH”.
  15. Interesting to see that Indonesia have taken a surprisingly progressive view of managing the liveaboard cruisers caught in their waters by the Covid pandemic. Rather than the scattergun approach taken in NZ which is clearly not very helpful for visitors: https://youtu.be/UnwPDFMOVQI
  16. Agree that any proposal to encourage live-aboards is good. i recently spoke to GH about this and they are actively trying to wind down to zero - their argument is wanting to be a ‘clean & green’ marina and they can never know 100% the toilet usage habits of liveaboards. I think that’s a poor argument which could be handled in other ways if you wanted to and if you truly recognised the other benefits of liveaboards - especially as passive security.
  17. I also have a copy. Here are details that might help you get one: ISBN 0-9582498-8-1 Publisher: Holos Books, Remuera Tel: 09-521-1817 holosbooks@otm.co.nz
  18. Sounds like some people afloat are now getting nervous about picking up a fine from Police: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12322599 Like the surfers this morning: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12322560
  19. Personally I didn’t understand why yesterday’s announcement was labelled as ‘new laws’ in respect of boating. Because to me it wasn’t new news - it was a re-statement of the same notice that was issued to all mariners just before lockdown by the harbourmaster (and which was widely circulated by numerous marine bodies sometimes with their own extra spin eg CG, all the marinas, insurers etc). But I heard the message loud and clear before lockdown-down, namely non-essential / recreational boating by non-liveaboards is against the rules ie against the law during L4!
  20. Or a digital certificate you carry on your smartphone
  21. The key point you’re missing is “how do they know?”. If a couple of visitors turn up at Fitzroy store how do they know the boaties are ‘clean & safe’ with 2-3 weeks of liveaboard isolation. Or maybe they came from the mainland yesterday? Or were part of a raft-up last week? We are a long way off having a certification system whereby someone carries a certificate to verify they are clean / immune / recovered / vaccinated etc. It will happen but not til next year.
  22. Some Spanish marinas have been allowing ‘touch & go’ to refuel & rewater then exit port again.
  23. Intriguing. Has the makings of a movie: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12322421
  24. You’ve got to be worried about the ongoing viability of ETNZ’s primary sponsorship & support given who they are...
