  1. Pole is carbon, feels less than 10kg all up, so weight is negligible.
  2. Our spinnaker pole is stored in cradles on the side deck. Kinda ok but kinda gets in the way as well. I have seen them stored vertically on the mast and that looks convenient - is it?
  3. An excellent outcome all round then
  4. looking for 2.4m of it if you have some lying around doing nothing and wanting to be exchanged for cash, beer, rum....
  5. I haven't done it, but don't see any issues with it. Treat it like any other window in the hull or cabin top - rebate, the right adhesive and the right plastic - ie, UV stable etc. Radius the corners to reduce the risk of cracking.
  6. Home now. Out through this entire event and my single takeaway is what a difference a great anchor makes. The Manson Supreme just digs itself in and holds. Pulled it up this morning and it had mud and debris covering the blade and over 3/4 of the shaft! It must have been over 250mm deep into the sea floor.
  7. Holed up in Awaawaroa Bay. Flat water where we are but wind is howling over the ridgeline.
  8. No, an alloy floor Aakron. Tried several places to get it repaired they all laughed. Actually, some of them swore. I'm tossing up getting it retubed locally, but I'm never buying an Aakron again. This is the second that just gave up on a huge area of seam. Stored under cover and everything....
  9. Immediate dinghy issue solved, but still open to considering your offers
  10. I'm over inflatables. I've spent two weeks chasing a leak and I've had it. Bloody thing has fittings that fall off at will, rows like a balloon and I'm looking forward to burning it and dancing naked around the flames. So I'm looking for a 2.4 - 2.7m tender. Could be interested in a sailing dinghy that can be motored and rowed as required. Doesn't need to be beautiful, does need to be usable.
  11. Which has the advantage of being done from the cockpit
  12. Just as the weather is at its most sh*t, we are heading out to south-eastern Waiheke and then up to Kawau. If you see Stepping Out around, pop over for a beer. Or rum as that may be more weather-appropriate. Cheers, Ashton and Jos
  13. Disclaimer up front! This is NOT for use in a device in service. I replaced the CO2 cartridges in our inflatable jackets and removed this one. It is badly corroded but weighs in spec. If you need a cartridge for testing or other non-service purpose let me know. It's yours for free.
  14. Golf courses bring several positive social impacts including large areas of green space. They also generally provide access for casual/non-member players Same argument for team sport facilities eg rugby / soccer fields. Cost of entry is comparitively low Marinas almost be definition detract from the environment and hte cost of entry (go buy a sizable boat) is comparatively high. Useful, convenient for the user, and valuable, but still not obviously a public amenity. Before I owned a yacht I no more thought of marinas as a public benefit than I thought of banks as socially responsible
  15. We logged a trip using the app, we were late arriving and couldn't close it on the app, they contacted NOK who then paniced and checked up on us! It works as stated on the box from our experience.
  16. In the audiophile world they refer to speakers having either a high or low WAF, alongside the electrical metrics. Turns out WAF is Wife Approval Factor
  17. Therein lies the problem. If everyone puts their energy into identifying "thems what's to blame", we all miss the reality- we have all contributed to the state of the fishery (feel free to insert the identity of any environmental commons to replace fishery).
  18. Windy shows a swing from North through west to south west on Saturday 24th to late Sunday 25th, continuing to the end of their current forecasting on Tuesday 27th
  19. thats bloody good value for the occasional user!
  20. aaaah. I used a crimper for stainless wire crimping when I did mine, but I am an ex-auto sparkie and I can own my own failures! I would suggest running your cable to get the measurements right, then taking the whole lot to a friendly auto or marine sparkie to crimp the terminals.
  21. what size cable, what purpose?
  22. Nice work CT! It becomes a bit addictive eh. I left my fids out on SO this weekend so I'm going to make another pair for at home. I'm also looking for material to use to make a pull fid for real small line <4mm. Then I can do a covered eye splice on the tweaker control lines (3mm dyneema). I tried using the eye of an upholstery needle, but its not big enough.
  23. They are beautiful - a real piece of marine bling. But priced like they are from Cartier as well. If I was doing a complete refit, I'd go to the FRP ones and just accept having to replace them every 3 or 4 years. I'd still be quids in and able to afford rum.
  24. I would more question my ability to wrestle a 50kg item above deck while the hull was rapidly filling with cold seawater at 0300hrs, 700km offshore... I guess we worry about different things.
