Doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely as dinghy string.

We have a dinghy string.

I had the same boat with 13hp. Never gave it a 2nd thought. Like I said there'll be lots of opinions on this one.

Lots of different opinions on this one. Sounds plenty to me. Others will disagree.

Storm jib, trisail, jackstays. As a starting point let's consider a 40ft family cruiser, well maintained and well equipped but now decided to try a first offshore passage. So only looking at extra expense over continuing to cruise coastal. I'm with Matt no change out of 20k. What about communication?

Last time I did a cat 1 med kit (2016) I did what Jon said, $1,000. I'm with Matt, unlikely to get much change out of 20k.

I think he's found a gravity anomaly

NSW has licenses and nobody ever drowns and all the powerboats are perfectly behaved.

The bottom of my rudder is over 1m higher than the bottom of the keel
-
Hadn't thought of that

Sad. We're screwed.

She was fine, just settled a bit due to the underside of the keel being curved. Must remember to block it up next time

That's a fine looking schooner on the grid.

We used to remove the wheel. Until I was brought on deck one night at 3 am by a thunderstorm with 50kn behind it. Angela went forward while I started the engine and put the wheel back on. Except in my haste I dropped the nut to the cockpit floor where it promptly disappeared down a cockpit drain. By this time Angela had the anchor up and was wondering wtf I was up to. Maybe take it off but put it back at bedtime? We were never brave enough to try again.

A man can never have too many clamps

That was my thought. An Ss34 isn't hugely different to a cav 32 and mine would not hold that angle with just a storm jib. The bow would blow away.

Registration Offshore such as the Cook Islands
Black Panther replied to Will Fransen's topic in MarineTalk
While you are at it, can you waive the need for a gz curve forBP if I wanted to race offshore. Probably not going to happen now but that was the final straw last time. -

Registration Offshore such as the Cook Islands
Black Panther replied to Will Fransen's topic in MarineTalk
Jon, appreciate what you're doing. If it is to be discussed why not chuck in the fact that there is zero evidence that the cat 1 requirements have any effect on the number of boats needing assistance. I did attempt a preliminary look at this some years ago. To get the data took two requests under OIA so it took some time. From memory i found uninspected boats about 30% less likely to need rescue/assistance. Of course this was totally unscientific and in particular did not consider all the other factors tgat might influence the results. However I think would make a worthy poin -
If you are keeping the boat in NZ you wikl pay duty and taxes

Fisheries amendment act, rescuefish and legasea

Because what you said is incorrect. 3 x 6% is 18%. Not zero. If you had said 18% is totally inadequate and won't do any goid I would gave agreed with you. As for getting it passed before the election - would you rather the govt did not even try? Let's wait until something happens before criticizing. It doesn't make sense to make your own predictions then criticize someone based on what you think might happen. At the very least predicate your statement with "I predict ".
