When I was in my early teens whangarei harbour was totally infested with a coral like worm that would leave a hard calcium crust up to 18inches deep. People were very concerned. Then it went away, much like the Mediterranean fan worm in our river .

One of my daughter's biggest kicks was a jam session with David Crosby. I'm disappointed she didn't ask about his boat.

Registration Offshore such as the Cook Islands

and your point continues to be the rules should be specially changed just to suit you. I'm comfortable with the status quo. I don't like the rules but there is a loophole that allows me to circumvent them. But i suggest this conversation will go better if it doesn't get personal. -

What's your point here? Only those with unlimited funds should be allowed to sail offshore? -

If these were NZ vessels presumably they had cat 1 and it did them no good. -

I'm sorry got lost there. Who is speaking ? I don't get what is being said after the comma. -
And the cynic in me says there's someone trying to get their hands on the hammerhead to build apartments and that's why we are seeing this.

I wonder to what extent we insist vs having it imposed by bad planning decisions?

I'm aware of al least 20, i get contracted fairly frequently by people looking for an alternative, and a couple I was unaware of just popped up on this thread. But no wY of knowing short of an OIA request ( that's what I had to do a few years back when i looked for stats on rescues). I disagree. Nearly everyone i speak to simply wants autonomy over their own vessel, although one recently simply didn't think they had time to get through it all before departure. The first time I did it Fossil did the inspection, that about 44 years ago. Last time I did it about 3years a -

Back to the original topic. Does YNZ have any concern that a significant percentage of nz boats heading offshore are looking to foreign registration to avoid cat 1? And if they do would their approach be punitive or would they try to approach these people to find out what is wrong with the current scheme. And maybe fix it? -
I'm not in NZ so any answer would be irrelevant.

So singlehanded is out. -
Not correct. Ferry is way faster than bus. Penlink will knock about 10 mins off travel time, but won't affect bus travel through Silverdale. I know I'm in a minority on the peninsula but I woukd have canned penlink and put the money into more/better public transport.

I've only checked out of Malaysia and we yellow flagged Thailand. Anyone who is thinking of offshore cruising go sooner rather than later. It just gets harder and harder. -

Ive never been asked for insurance clearing in, where was that? If you need to go to a marina get (3rd party) locally. I've never been questioned at a fuel dock and tend to avoid marinas. -
Just read another interview. He nay bexa really nice guy but an absolute beginner who has barely sailed anything anywhere before.

Is it a sailboat or a space shuttle

Except it's not an open and unfettered market. It's closer to a monopoly.

I never bothered with offshore insurance. Clear customs and you are on your own.
