  1. On both sides I observed attractive young women in three piece bathing suits. (Shoes, sunglasses, hat. Three pieces)
  2. I discovered standing on the western shore of the Atlantic looking east you get much the same view as standing on the eastern shore looking west This time the passage took 9hrs which is significantly less than 20 something days last time. But given the state of modern air travel I'd take a Catana 431 over an Airbus any day.
  3. I believe somebody dived on the Torrey Canyon a while back and said 7t was spotlessly clean and providing homes for the fishies. Salt water is quite remarkable.
  4. Ohhhhh , chicken bones you say - wonder if it can handle Angela's hair?
  5. Easiest and quickest from here is Cook Is. Other options also promising but if you're going next year check out Jersey, Langkawi or Poland.
  6. To purchase a marina berth would cost me more than I paid for the boat. Bet I'm not the only one.
  7. The best thing anout this thread is tgat my original typo in the heading is still there.
  8. We're f*cked. It has also been suggested the GH ferry get shut down once penlink is complete. The cynic in me says " property developer wants land for more apartments ".
  9. First I googled Jack White, then sent the video to Nancy.
  10. When the mnz report is eventually produced I've got $10 that says it'll talk about who had the right vhf channels and who was wearing lifejackets.
  11. However to keep to the current topic I did Mooloolaba to Auckland in 1978? On Chubasco.
  12. Nope, my first one was 1975 (1st overall) as crew on a cav 32. I was 18 I think.
  13. The problem lies in there being the need for an assessment by the skipper. When is it appropriate to drop the rules and save yourself? One mile? Half mile, 100metres?. Really all I'm saying us i will err on the side of caution. And I'm always astounded at skippers of small recreational vessels who push to the limits (even to the point of collision) and get indignant about it. What's easier, screaming on the vhf and firing off flares, or coming up 10 degrees for a few minutes?
  14. I give way to anything big enough to damage my boat. You SUPs and kayaks get out of my way.
  15. That'll be the coriolis force at work.
  16. Not just here https://www.islandecho.co.uk/round-the-island-yacht-race-takes-a-turn-as-dozens-of-incidents-unfold-south-of-the-isle-of-wight/
  17. I would take care to keep them out of the sun when not in use. Otherwise go for it. Ps the pumps don't last if they get wet.
  18. Just the same crap vinyl the dinghy is made of. The problem is a glue that works. But consider it disposable and a spray can of contact glue might last a year, then do it again. I can get lots of pretty coloured offcuts nearly free.
  19. I've thought about getting some vinyl (it's cheap) and some contact cement and covering the top half. Should last at least 12 months
  20. I went the other route i buy a new one every three years at 1/4 the price . I think 3 yrs is good as almost continuous use.
  21. Another example of a blanket ruling that is inappropriate/wrong for some and not others. One size does not fit all. However, like lots of other silly rules, it won't be enforced. Just dragged out once in a blue moon by an insurance company trying to avoid a payout, or by MNZ trying to cover their arse.
  22. This rule could be detrimental to safety. After a long difficult passage and arriving at a secure anchorage allowing the crew to sleep will make the boat safer than having someone asleep in the cockpit.
  23. Thole pins. Never seen them in common usage before. Basque fishing boats
