  1. Very cool! pour the beer in there and never waste a drop!
  2. Interesting article in this mornings Herald. Will need to get in more popcorn for this saga................ http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11508255
  3. Change of thread direction - anyone get a fright re their first power charges at Westhaven?
  4. Just came across this video - the guy makes some sense. Caveats: there are better inflatables than the 1 he demonstrates. And inflatables are okay in sheltered waters where your crew can pick you up? But maybe not if you're sailing solo - sheltered or not? And yes, don't fall off the boat in the freeking first place!! HARNESS is your best friend (and not one that runs down by the stanchions - getting hung up over the rails doesn't sound like fun. Interested in your thoughts as I'm not experienced in this area. I wear and inflatable. It's an interesting discussion............
  5. uuummh, erice, humans kill more humans than the rest of the species combined kill humans. We're the the most dangerous animal/species on the planet - to ourselves and to other species. Mossies kill bugger all humans in comparison to humans killing humans. I sincerely hope there's a more intelligent species out there than us - it would be really disappointing to me if humans are the the highest intelligence in the universe.
  6. Yep IT, over priced - but I like her. Meantime, in order not to buy a bigger ship, I'm trying to make my 29 footer larger with an enclosed canvas cockpit that I can sleep in over summer - WITHOUT making it ugly. Not that easy!
  7. Thread drift alert!!! This is not for sale overseas (unless you count north of the Akl harbour bridge foreign territory). But she looks perfect for what I would like.......... of course, we're all different............... http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/yachts/keeler/auction-913957075.htm
  8. As we all know, it's the traumatic part of sailing - have a gander at this................. http://www.youtube.com/watch?t=63&v=9qHdPhkSSNQ
  9. And score one for the people of Auckland who got off their arses and kicked up merry hell. And I, ashamedly, did nothing. But congrats and thank you to those who did.
  10. You could do a lot worse with 8 minutes of your life - this is superb.............

    Solar Power

I agree with KM on keeping the fridge full - it definitely cuts down the power reqd to run it. I have a waeco - I have a bag of polystyrene blocks in assorted shapes and sizes - when the fridge gets low I just throw a few in to fill it right up - easy way to save heaps of power. Also, stop opening the fridge every 5 minutes! if you are going to have 2 beers, take 'em both out at the same time...........or wines or whatevers. Pet peeve of mine with my other 1/2.
  12. I think you'll find MB that "acting for the shareholders" entails maximising profitability. I have no idea what other conditions are in their 'constitution' but I guarantee profit heads the list. In the USA corporates can be sued (and are) by shareholders for not maximising profits above everything else (short of breaking the law ) The directors have a duty in law in NZ. The council makes the rules (amongst other bodies) that governs what they can and can't do - both in terms of rules of building/extending/consent processes etc and in setting the port company up in the first place - the por
  13. Thanks Clipper, that makes sense. I thought that sitting on the mast "seat" was just a tad to far forward! And placing a temporary seat over the centre case is an easy fix.
  14. A large topic swerve..............Aspenforte: You row the Optimist? Do you have an extra seat of some sort or do you use the "seat" that the mast sits on when rowing? I'm not overly familiar (as you can tell) with the Opti - sailed Ps/Flying Ants/Moths/Cherubs when I was a nipper I'm thinking of buying an Opti to tow behind the keeler when I take the grand kids out on cruises so they can play in that when we're at anchor.
  15. Gotta agree with BNG a little here. I've attended 3 Westhaven meetings and come away pretty happy overall. I do however appreciate that not everyone can make these meetings. And that my "happy" isn't everyone else's. And I also appreciate that I'm a newbie to Westhaven (relatively). Only been down there with my boats 10 years. There are ample planning/proposal documents either on-line (e.g. see various links Westhaven has provided in this thread) or just give them a call or visit. Please go read the documents before ranting. Times are a-changing. As are the types of yachts, t

    liveaboard

Part of the new plans for Westhaven are to make more room for liveaboards (according to Tom Warren GM Marinas at the Thursday meeting on the Westhaven plan last week) - and provide better amenities for them. Which (I'd assume) berth holders will gain some advantage from. Be interesting to see what actually happens.........................but these are plans, not laid in concrete................. 4.38pm. Beer time........ must run.
