Would never happen to me. I never make mistakes.................. I mounted a jam cleat the other day with a riser?? (adjusts the angle of the cleat to the deck where it's mounted) - did a magnificent job. Left the jammer sealant to dry, went back to boat and tried it out with the appropriate line - and I had the angle back to front...............sigh. Still, no-one was watching and you guys are good at keeping secrets. By the way - that sealant really works, was a bi&%c to get off. And TL - I went everywhere trying to find a plastic one but nothing fitted the space(s) I wanted to use - without remodelling the forard 1/3 of the yacht.................. AndDtwo - trust me - at my age I know a thing or 2 about bowels and how they (sometimes don't) work!! Sigh. Thanks KM - that's what I was planning on doing but wondered if there was, literally, a gasket material of some sort out there. Decision made!! Yay. However, several have raised the 'flowcoat' finish. I've read lots of stuff that says 4 to 6 coats of epoxy is fine as the protection and as the finish. Why use flowcoat on a holding tank? And does it need a finish over itself in a holding tank?

Hi all, while we're discussing holding tank hoses....... I'm building a sewage holding tank out of glassed, epoxy on ply. Half way through it - b&$ch of a job - why can't boat designers make at least some sections in straight lines with right angles??? Anyway, I'm thinking of making the top piece of ply removable - but that means I need a gasket to seal the top well to the box - for obvious reasons. Any thoughts on what material to use as a gasket???

She sailed past us a week and a half ago on the outside of Rakino - she had all the sails up. Spectacular. And can she move!! My mate got some good photos - but I was helming at the time. Not sure why she was out - she headed back in later in the day.

I'm with you FISH, have a party but think about everyone else on the water. I'm lucky that I can avoid going away in the xmas period because i can go away lots of other times. So I/we can go to quiet bays, and when I/we want to party, I/we go downstairs, close the hatch (or at least keep the stereo to a level that hurts our ears but no-one elses), and party without the rest of the bay having to listen to us. The arrogance of arseholes who decide in a crowded bay at xmas (or any other time) that the stereo on the back of the boat after midnight at full bore is fab, are, well, arsehole

Also, when attempting to get the boat to go in reverse (when not in the dock, i.e. if you stern in to your berth), it pays to start the attempt with the boat stern into the wind. If you're side on or facing into the wind (especially if it's blowing a bit and you have a light/smallish yacht), the nose tends to get blown away before you get traction in reverse. So you end up going in a half circle before you get traction - and in a narrow lane that can mean you're aiming at the nearest boat when you finally get traction - and end up ramming into forward in a hurry and starting the whole cock up

I'm with smithy - I'm seriously thinking of selling as well - a major (but not the only) reason being marina costs. At Westhaven we now pay for power & water on top of the fees which used to cover these. And the fees have increased - albeit slightly for mine. I looked at going back to a trailer sailor - had one I left rigged on the hard at Westhaven before I bought the keeler. But Westhaven doesn't have that option any more. And then I looked at both marinas closer to Waiheke (would suit a trailer sailor not bashing up the Waitemata against the sou'wester) to see what costs are for a t

Closer to home Dave Perillo spent 6 months in the Yasawas living on a John Welsford Navigator (15 feet open boat). And he did some pretty awesome stuff in the Hauraki Gulf as well. So Wheels, what Biocide do you use, where do you get it from? I always thought that (with my usual extremely limited knowledge of anything mechanical) there was little I could do to prevent the bug other than keep water out and keep tanks as full as possible......... But if a Biocide works, is cheapish and easy to use - then I'd be keen.

Not the "lashings will continue until morale improves" kinda lashings Long story, but does anyone know someone who could do permanent lashings that 'look' seaman like on something similar to this exterior structure? Well done - she looks a lovely wee ship, enjoy the trailer sailer scene. I had a trailer sailer for 6 years - loved it (but thought keeler would be better soooooo sold her and bought a small keeler.....), have had the keeler for the last 5 years - seriously thinking of going back to trailer yachting.
