Just tried to upload a file that is on the Yachting NZ website about plans to charge yachties for the NRC's fan worm etc. inspection team. apparently I am not allowed to do this? But perhaps someone else ( IT ) can access it and post it. The interesting thing is that they are asking ratepayers for more money as well. The fact that they saw fit to give the Hundertwasser project just south of 2 million dollars without any rate payer consultation or approval and now are saying they have a shortfall defies logic, and shows how much they are Castle building, out of control! I would say so!

Remember production line boats are like modern cars, not necessarily built to last a long time. Plus ex charter boats are like ex rentals generally well flogged and sold at the point they are likely to need serious refit or / and repair. Just saying.

Interesting links Kevin.

The examples I gave are hull ballasted, the Ovni and the Alubat also have weight in the CB, both the Trismus and the Via are hull ballasted but have 2 x in line plate CB's. Plus there is 400l of water tank immediately above the ballast, and 250l fuel tank at the same level. Of course if the were empty they wouldn't come into the calculation. Using only the aft board makes down wind sailing a dream. Kevin, I have not heard of any of the above being capsized, one of the theories of shallow draft is that they slip sideways rather than trip over the keel in threatening conditions. I would expect

Many modern examples in alloy out of France Alubat, Ovni, etc. Older versions Trismus, Via, etc. some haveone board, some have two. Average CBoard up, draft 1m, Down 1.8 +. all are ocean cruisers and gunk holers par excelance. I'm slightly biased as I have a "Trismus". Prior to my ownership it has been in the Arctic, Hawaii, Alaska, French Polynesia. Will go to reasonably to windward with a little coaxing.

i'm pretty sure Wurth have them, probably trade tools as well. I have some, will check if there is a name on them.

ironically boats are more likely to come into contact with each other when there is no wind, and during slack water if there has been a tide running. I have seen several stern too stern meetings, generally with one boat on chain and the other on rope and chain. Though occasionally bot on chain.

I stand corrected, I assume seal repairs you mention are not about someone taking a bat to the at the Leopard one at Westhaven?

Beccara, Manson Supreme, made in NZ, not China, at least equal to a Rocna + cheaper.

PLAN TO REDUCE MARINE PESTS IN FIORDLAND CLOSER TO REALITY
Steve Pope replied to Chewing Gum's topic in MarineTalk
As usual it is for consumption of the masses who don't sail, but think all that do are "rich pricks" It is all "don't mind the quality feel the width" Small boats and their owners (generally individualists) are easy targets, there is no cohesive body that "actually" looks after the interests of the cruising fraternity in the public arena. The Bureaucrats have the money (ours) and the area concerned being in Fiordland, they are free to do as they wish. Who is ever going to check whether they do as they say? Water moves, there are things called currents (lots) that apparently the said bureaucra -

Having sailed the upper North Island West coast, I concur with Madyottie, especially in a shallow draft cat.

$300.00 instant fine, each area financed by Maritime NZ for 5 days.

9 days around the top to the B.o.I., not a long time, especially as I imagine they are stopping along the way.

If you are worried re side loads on the swivel 3 to 5 links of chain between the anchor and the swivel will remove that issue. It does mean another shackle, but if you use the recommended ones that Knotme supplies it shouldn't cause you any grief.

Dickinson are very good, their NZ agent is in Bluff, logical as that area is where they are most needed.

Wondering why the High Tides are really high just lately?
Steve Pope replied to wheels's topic in MarineTalk
They say an iceberg has 9/10 of its volume below water they say water expands as it becomes ice, wouldn't this make the arctic pretty much self cancelling if / when it melts?? -
