  1. We'll be at Whitianga both weekends. Launching the new Dragon on the 28th and hopefully getting some sailing in. There's a big concert here on the 29th and the Hahei Leadfool festival on the 5th. I'd love to take the Dragon to Mahurangi....... one day
  2. No, the hull was built in the Ukraine in 2009 for the Russian that bought Waiwera Water etc. he only sailed it once and it has sat unused for years following a colourful exchange of "owners" There was talk of producing more but the GFC would have put paid to that. At 160000euros plus GST you'd have to be keen. http://www.dragonclass.co.nz/assets/Limited%20Edition%20Vintage%20Dragon.pdf
  3. Frantic and the Nacra are sold. I considered the Corsair, they offered it to me for $30k. I didn't go see it though. Ex resort boat so probably a bit tired in places although it sounds like the gear/sails are ok Says no issues, beautiful boat but last week it said needs some TLC, go figure, or go and have a look
  4. This was in Whitianga. There's a Soling here too and quite a good mixed fleet
  5. Yep that's the one. Seller is a mate of mine and he got it a year ago and I was hoping to go for a sail with him this Xmas. Then I saw it on trade me and bought it immediately before he could change his mind
  6. Started the new year with a new boat. I'll keep it in Whitianga for daysailing and the occasional race. Or I'll park it outside my window and just drool over it.
  7. Yeah going past now, blink and you'll miss it.
  8. We shall see. Initial interest is from overseas or out of Auckland. She will be sold this year
  9. I can't see why you couldn't cut the bulkhead to match the open side. You should double the edge thou
  10. Sounds like a can of diesel and a match would work wonders
  11. Can't wait to see it on the 32nd of January
  12. 14 Metre from 27th till you get back. Asking on behalf of a mate. Message me here or 021*960494
  13. One of the greatest. My Primary School had one of his books and I think I wore it out. http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2016/12/07/eight-bells-paul-elvstrom/
  14. Perhaps a victim of the old f@#k or swim ultimatum?
  15. Sundreamer's Coastal Had a few misgivings about matching our great performance last year in ideal Sundreamer conditions with a lighter downwind forecast predicting the lightweights would give us a hiding Got a great start at pace but fluffed the 1st gybe getting a wineglass and me letting the main halyard go. Quickly recovered and luckily the only error of the race. We held on downwind to be right amongst the 52's and only one 8.5 in front at the first corner but he broke at Kawau. In front was Vodafone, Taeping and Slime as predicted and we thought one other. The reach across Bream Ba
  16. Catalinas are great boats. I recall a Waikato one in the 80's sailed raced by a gun crew that cleaned up against some good competition. No slug with good sails and sailed right
  17. From hot water beach you continue west to where a swampy looking area meets the southern hillside. The hot pool is a short walk through the bush. The outlet to the east is a nice area. Be mindful of the rivers flow. If you're keen you can walk to a stunning waterfall.
  18. Done a bit of sailing on Taupo. It's lovely, check out the Maori rock carvings on the way around to Kinloch. It can cut up very rough very quick so keep an eye on the weather. It's cold and fresh water reacts different to salt water. It's also very deep and there is (or was) quite a bit of weed that will make an anchor unretrievable in a small boat if you're not careful. First trip, I'd go for Rotoiti or Tarawera, there's hot pools
  19. Not Vodafone any more, Frank Racing, and is coming home after the Noumea race
  20. Peachgrove Bay on Great Mercury Island is mine. Sand so clean it squeaks, A stream to dam, warm lagoon for the little ones, and a pleasant walk to a waterfall and swimming hole.
  21. A moored Catamaran opposite the beach at Macandrew Bay, Dunedin capsized in the wind
