  1. Yes Laurie was on board at the time. They were in the coastal classic and got a huge puff, bobstay broke and prod ripped off which put the screecher out to the side and dragged them over. They righted it quickly with some help from the coastgard and suffered very little damage.
  2. As Jon says we are working with the classes and associations to try and put on races they want to do and encourage more boats to get out there. Yes it does take some boats out of the Shorthaul 100 but they not racing in the same division anyway. Another big change this year, we are keeping the same order of 60, 100, 50 so the shortest race last but then finishing at Islington Bay to allow boats to stop for a raft up or what ever they want to do. So get your friends to bring their boats out too and lets make a night of it. Everyone is welcome to raft to the Sun Fast for the after party
  3. "Someone said I needed to put a bit more weight on the bottom of my keel...."
  4. Actually out to 22 boats now. Fantastic. Sun Fast 3600 Racing is in there too.
  5. A few photos while it was still civilised. Such a mint weekend, challenging race followed by an epic gathering with good like minded people, all having fun and sharing a common passion in shorthanded sailing. Everyone sure let loose!
  6. Or falls asleep in the bushes......
  7. There really was some seriously funny stuff that happened, and many stories that will not be mentioned again other than to those who were there... I still have some huge blanks from the night but I was told I had a good night and didn't make too much of an ass out of myself. It was a new level of obnoxious.
  8. Glamour out here. Almost at Arid island on the outside of barrier. Max just to leward, notorious and provincial cowboy about 3 nm behind and gale force about 6nm back. Gennaker reaching in 10-12kts. Champaign sailing.
  9. Fish, what are you forgetting about in the Antarctica example is the potential environmental damage that can be caused. Where do you draw the line on what is acceptable and not. Is it ok for someone to take a huge poorly maintained, rusty old ship down there with 500tons of bunker oil on board because its a cool adventure? And then who cleans up the mess if something does go wrong. This is the reason boats have to get permits go go down there.

    Question

Talk to stu off the FT10 tigga (all fired up on crew.org). He has just replaced all his nexus gear and might still have the server.
  11. 34 boats now, thats awesome!
  12. I have a scout camp with my boys all weekend so won't make it for the race unfortunately.
  13. People all use their boats for different things. For some its a quiet weekend away, others its family time but there are a lot of people who go out to socialise and some that party pretty hard. If you go into a crowded anchorage then there is a good likelihood of coming across one or more of the later type of cruisers. I have done all of the different types of cruising, plenty of partying but more of the family cruising these days. I'm not going to be a hypocrite and tell other people they cant party on their boats just because my priorities have changed with 3 kids on board (and at the a
  14. Looks like we made a good call. 50nm to go and only 4 hrs until the time limit.
  15. The problem was the sea state. A HUGE 4m swell bouncing back off the coromandel coast making an unbelievable seaway. That with no wind Made for a very unpleasant time and very slow progress. It was just horrible out there and very hard on the gear.
  16. Yes we have retired on crusader. It was real sloppy and light on the other side of corro and after some maths we worked out that there was not much future. No one to race against either. Had a great race so far, leading both ran tan and the open 60 all race.
  17. I will be on Crusader. Hopefully the front comes late and we get a good hoon down the coast.
  18. It hasn't been discussed really Will. Probably not a problem for small modifications like your transom, but I would assume that if you are changing something that would seriously alter the characteristics of the boat like a new keel or rig configuration then we would want you to do another qualifier. I will bring it up in the next committee meeting to get clarification for you.
  19. He has a different crew this time around I believe. It needs to be the same boat and same crew.
  20. Will, yes its correct. The idea here is that any boat above 0.720 PHRF (what we figured was about the lower end of the PHRF for RNI boats) can do the long haul division to qualify for the RNI race. For the shorthaul we wanted to limit the PHRF so this was all smaller boats to try and keep the spread down slightly and results tighter. We didn't want any bigger boats finishing a day ahead of the smaller ones. Depending on entries we could look at adjusting the maximum PHRF band for the shorthaul but for now thats where we are at. Hope it makes sense.
  21. After I have to give the Sun Fast back, I'm looking at getting either a Lotus 950 or a Wright 10. Both suit my needs pretty much perfectly.
  22. I finished sometime after 3am. It was pretty painful with anyone's guess as to what was coming next. Won some and lost some. Lost a lot to the other big boats right at the finish where I sat out there for another few hours. Still very glad I did it. Learnt a lot about the boat and challenged myself. Rum fest after finishing then a long motor home with Faster Coyote towing behind and Nathan and Col on board with me. Well done to anarchy and gale force.

No Richard I don't think I will be there Saturday, got heaps on. Just got home at 2am this morning from 2 weeks in Australia (Hobart) with my whole family for my brothers wedding. Traveling with 3 young kids is challenging. Now I have the wife and all 3 kids with the same nasty tummy bug I have battled for the last 3 days. Still cleaning up spew from all over the house....
