smithy09 50
Do we have a "go" for the RNI 2016? I have to plan how long it will take to fit my canting keel to the Marshall.
Boatworks 23
Do we have a "go" for the RNI 2016? I have to plan how long it will take to fit my canting keel to the Marshall. Haha. Better start that project now! And keep us up to date with how it is going! Sounds like you're keen to go again?
smithy09 50
Haha. Better start that project now! And keep us up to date with how it is going! Sounds like you're keen to go again? Yup, very keen. Brilliant race last time. Really enjoyed it! Just need that oil price to go over $150 a barrel so my employment is guaranteed. Keel, bowsprit, A2, Fro, etc etc.. The list is endless!! Then I see yachts like Omega for sale with everything done for $220K and think sell the Marshall and buy that......... Not the same as a Ross 40 though.. .
splashprincess 17
Won't this be RNI 2017??? That gives you an extra year to get that canting keel. We at RPNYC are working on another 2-handed Central Triangle, scheduled for 2016 if you're that keen to do a big race in 2016 though.
B00B00 310
Yes Deb is right, RNI race is scheduled for 2017 and we also hope to run a RNZ race in 2018. there will be a longer 2 handed race next Anzac weekend (2016) as well which can be used as a qualifier for RNI.
Deep Purple 512
I think there's talk of a fully crewed round North Island race in 2016 too
smithy09 50
Wow! Sounds great! Not quite as keen on the fully crewed one. Too hard to get a good crew together, but the two handed ones sound great! Lots coming up! Bring it on!
Oracle1 21
great to see all this getting planned and talked about .... real keen on RNZ, on Oracle or something else by then. but isnt solo tasman in 2018 too?. bit of a clash there or is the thinking that those mad enough to do the tasman solo wouldnt want to do RNZ?.. what about 2019 for RNZ. I don't think i have ever planned that far ahead in my life..!!
Adrianp 120
One more thing to throw into the mix - In 2019 there is possibly going to be a Tall ships race around NZ to celebrate an anniversary (no idea which one) of Capt Cook. Other boats should be able to join in.
Island Time 1,235
I reckon RNZ is HARDER than the Solo Tasman. Although not solo for RNZ I guess...
SloopJohnB 322
So what happened about the A2B race????
Battleship 100
Anyone who wants a taste of the RNI should be doing the Anzac 200, very similar just on a smaller scale. Interesting and possibly tough at times course, finishing in a cool place, surrounded by like minded people with ample opportunity to catch up and shoot the breeze because everyone doesn't just disappear home after the finish. Island Time 1,235
Yup, next year when I've got decent sails again, I'll be into The Anzac 200!!
smithy09 50
If I was home I would be doing it for sure!! Sadly, I'm not.
Duty Free 2
IT--you should come out and do the ANZAC 200 in its first year and help us get it established --- we want as many there as possible--old sails and all you will enjoy it !!!!
Island Time 1,235
Hmm, Tempted, but my main is so rotten that the Admiral put her hand through it the other day. Amazing it has not yet exploded! Hope to order another one from Booboo in the next month or so if I can keep up my current work level!! Then I should be all good. Duty Free 2
I have my old back -up ,1220 mainsail if you want to use it !!!!!!
Island Time 1,235
Thanks for the offer. I think your main is too big - my rig is a little smaller, as is the boat! 39 ft 9 inches without the spirit/anchor platform. Generous offer though, thanks!
Battleship 100
On this day in 1770 James Cook completed the first RNI. http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/james-cook-completes-circumnavigation-of-north-island
Battleship 100
I think it was optimised for the ior rule, lots of weird bumps and very low righting moment so it rated as a quarter tonner.
