erice 732
No winds, rolled over to tomorrow's lay day
SloopJohnB 323
Hopefully more breeze than the 3 knts today.
erice 732
forecast is looking like less wind than today....
ScottiE 174
What a race by TNZ. What a shocker by Japan. What a cockups by the TV guys. I had the TV coverage a full minute behind the virtual eye
erice 732
apparently from here on out the winds usually remain light, so whatever form the boats have shown >10kn - low lift - fast foil set, may not count for much
erice 732
interesting comment in the stuff typed feed Jun 2, 2017 5:18 AM Dennis Connor Today in these winds we will see tnz perform like nothing weve seen yet. I believe they will revel in the low range and after this race all the others including oracle will all hope for breezes above 14knts for the rest of the regatta http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/other-sports/93221941/live-americas-cup-qualifying-series--race-day-five

philstar 61
TNZ, oracle and soft bank japan all looked on a different league to BAR or Groupama today. Maybe Dean should have covered.
Addem 119
Definitely Dean should have covered. In match racing if you cover and get passed by a faster boat, well done them, but if you get passed because they separated and found better breeze, more fool you.
ex TL systems 63
interesting [good], that races are shortened to fit the time slots this time, if that had been the case last time we would have been defending not challenging now? iirc one of the races was stopped when we were well ahead in light winds as it was going to take too long to finish, and then we lost from 8 1 to 8
Romany 162
Televised live on sky today. BAR did kind of make a meal of it although unsurprising differences given the size of foils on TNZ. Almost a mono foil. Cover don't cover question remains a no brainer - doesn't matter what class of boat - with 2 evenly matched boats the one with the tactical strength should win. I'd suggest at this time the result for every team except Oracle is to have made the next round and so shooting away on a flyer is either a "lets see" or "we don't give a rats" moment. MasterOfDisaster 0
If only they'd been able to shorten courses in a certain other race! I'm not bitter. Honest.
hb1849 12
Have we really seen anyone properly covering yet?? The American commentators rant on about how great the number of lead changes they're seeing is -- I'm not so sure it's a good sign! Seems like perhaps it just takes too much time to prep for a tack and/or the boats lose too much ground in doing so that they feel they have to just keep sailing their own race...? waikiore 438
Correct HB thats why they almost always sail to the course edge till hitting a layline instead of traditional sailing up a preferred (breezy) side or covering meaning more tacks.
Addem 119
That's all well and good but when you've got a slender lead on the last leg, logic says to cover otherwise it's just a crapshoot as to whether you'll be ahead at the end and there will be no time to play catch up. And so it turned out. Conspiracy theory now out there that in return for design info Deano has made a pact with the devil to not beat Oracle in round robin. Impossible to tell of course. Romany 162
but entirely believable. I'd be watching my back if I was the devil, and that should mean someone else can punch said Devil fair in that smarmy gob hehas.
MarkMT 68
Maybe not. Someone anonymous writing in the Herald suggests that they may just not have the grunt to maintain enough hydraulic pressure late into the race. http://beta.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11861726
ScottiE 174
the Herald editors are a bunch of arogant c**ts. Peter Lester wrote that piece - his name was attributed to it when it 1st went up.
MarkMT 68
Oh I agree. Terminally incompetent.
