ex Elly 114
The council are looking for feedback on what to do at little shoal bay. Apparently a lot of locals want to remove the hardstand. If you think it is worth keeping you can make a submission here: https://akhaveyoursay.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/little-shoal-bay

khayyam 43
Have to say that a lot of the boats on the moorings there are looking sadly derelict. Not helping with the locals I expect.

aardvarkash10 755
Much though it pains me to say, if we support a haul out facility for privately owned boats on public land, do we support provision of vehicle hoists and other useful stuff so I can service my car on public land? Just wondering...
Kevin McCready 75
Car hoists and boat haulouts is a not a good analogy because boat haulouts are much more limited. I like the direction of your thoughts but to take it s few steps further we could ban all privately owned goods on public land. That would mean a new type of society.

Psyche 348
Land value in Auckland makes private haulout facilities very expensive, traditionally public land was made available for haulouts with clubs usually running them. You know kind of like sports grounds who use publicly owned land for their private activities. Can anyone join the club is the same as saying can anyone haul their boat? My objection to the removal is that its part of the character and tradition of the area- over 100 years of hauling boats, but that's not so important, what alternative can the council provide given their pogrom against blue collar boat ownership. ex Elly 114
They have removed piles for cleaning and antifouling, so shouldn't they let the hardstands stay?
Black Panther 1,235
Maybe mention in your submissions the new biofouling rules, can't comply if there's nowhere to haul out.
1paulg 16
The Landing at Okahu Bay is up for review- it could be that Auckland ends up with 2 less haul out areas depending on how things turn out...
waikiore 249
Interesting point -that was a friendly public haul out that was slid sideways into private operation in lieu of paying someone redundancy. Now hauls half the number of vessels a year that it once did......
