eruptn 77
In prep for winter I have pulled a few of the more dirty halyards and other mast lines. What is the 'preferred' approach/method to clean these ? Started with a week of soaking in Nappy San and Algicide (pool cleaner). It would appear you do not put them in a washing machine ! Thanks

ex Elly 152
Actually you can put them in a washing machine. Just put them in a pillow case first. And use gentle detergents. Anything harsh can cause damage.

And you can walk away while they are banging around in there. Do remember to remove the anchor from its rode.

SanFran 11
DO NOT USE THE Washing machine- It will bugger them. Pull threads out etc.
eruptn 77
Have cycled thru soaking in laundry powder for 2-3 days, scrubbing with brush an rinsing…. Then repeating the cycle. It is working well. Avoided buying new washing machine

Pull threads out etc. I have done it yearly for about two decades with no ill effect. I use mesh 'bags' to avoid major tangles and I do not wash anything with metal hardware. Bare Dyneema is also kept out of this. 40 C program. Normal detergent. /Martin 1
Cheap Transport 51
+1 for putting in a mesh bag or pillow case first. I didn't.... now the wife has a lovely new washing machine and I'm a boat dollar short of where I was could've replaced half my lines for the same cost
