  1. Couldn't find him on trademe. But google thinks this is the guy → http://www.coromandel.com/
  2. There was a guy selling Narada lead carbons on trademe, Coromandal based I believe. They are a good battery.
  3. They should be the equivalent weight of a quality AGM. Weight is a very good indicator of a good battery, when compared to other batteries of the same chemistry. Even Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries. If you had two 100ah batts and one was 13kg and the other 14 kgs. Odds are the heavier one will be truer to capacity. There are no free lunches with physics, as all common use batteries are metal based and more metal equals higher charged capacity.
  4. I wouldn't consider lead crystal on a off grid setup because of the strict charging regimes. Lead carbon defiantly. But...there is Lead Carbon and then there is lead carbon. There are a number of ways to make this battery chemistry, buy from a reputable manufacture and you will likely be on a win. I see Victron Energy have brought out a Lead Carbon with a 20year design life and a quick google search suggests at good prices and compatible with existing charging equipment. https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Datasheet-Lead-carbon-battery-EN.pdf
  5. Has anyone considered attaching your harness to a spare halyard?
  6. I suspect you are correct. There are a few rust runs, so likely a steel boat. Totally agree...It would be better to start from scratch. I was just interested in the history of it or what it is. It was one a very expensive yacht.
  7. In the pictures below is a yacht that is one a pole mooring at Port Nikau/Port Whangarei, just south of NZ Ship repair yard. Does anyone know the history of this yacht? There is no name on it. It would have been something spectacular in its day. Bit of a waste.

    NRC on fan worm

Is any one keen to go along and see what this NRC talk is all about. I can't make it due to a prior commitment.
  9. She was at Anchor just up from kissing point recently [maybe still there] and mastless. Nice looking boat.

    NRC on fan worm

And moorings. That's where my boat is and they found fan worm on it. The silly thing is, is that whangarei harbour in contaminated with fan worm and they want me to clean my boat because it has fan worm on it.

    NRC on fan worm

Interesting article on the stuff website about biofouling and commercial shipping. I personally think it is stupid that individual regional councils set the rules locally, rather than a nationwide directive. https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/111015084/biosecurity-threat-sees-dirtybottomed-boats-ordered-out-of-new-zealand-waters

  13. What happens if you have more than one boat and require more than one MMSI? Would you need another callsign aswell?

    What is this for?

I don't have a real high performance boat its an early 80's IOR special from South Africa. I have an old furling 140% Genoa that I plan to replace with a 100 - 120% depending on who is giving me the advice and either a Symmetric or an Asymmetric. Currently, I sail wing on wing downwind or just take an as best angle as I can. I could still somewhat pole out an Asymmetric for downwind?
  16. I am keen to see how you plan to use it → https://www.drench.co.nz/catalog/Drench-37/Cattle-39/Noromectin-Pour-on-for-Cattle---Ivermectin-125.html

    What is this for?

Thank you, everyone, for your replies. So if I am going cruising and I currently have no spinnaker [on the purchase list] would I be best to purchase an asymmetric and or is there still a valid reason for an symmetric spinnaker and keeping the jockey/whisker pole? I would learn to use it, so not worried about that aspect and I plan to cruise to the tropics and likely a downwind route until I run out of cash.
  18. The newest ones are good, don't get an older second hand one. But get the sports version for cruising, the LX is not much easier to get into if you are free diving or scuba. The sports version is a drier ride and both are surprisingly a dry ride....even when it's choppy
  19. Interesting, NOTAM's only work if Plane drivers take notice...I have been at Bridge Pa airfield and Tokaroa airfields while a NOTAM has been in place and plane drivers have landed or done touch and go's...There was a drag racing meeting on at Tokaroa and two separate planes attempted to land and one touched and went...luckily for him/her

    What is this for?

Okay, the boat came with a spinnaker pole. I know what that is/does/can be used for....but I have another pole that came with the boat, that I have no idea what it is for? See pictures of the ends below....a hook and pulley at one ends and a normal pole attachment at the other. Any ideas?
  21. A lot of car companies in Europe use water cooled alternators. These run off the vehicles cooling system and are quite high current for there size. I'm looking at using one for a Renault Megane. Its about 150 amps. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ALTERNATOR-COOLING-WATER-RENAULT-ESPACE-MEGANE-SCENIC-GRAND-SCENIC-155AH/312211524893?hash=item48b141cd1d:g:AQQAAOSwYUlbbEhF:rk:23:pf:0
