That’s Conrad hanging out with the Germans?

The protester was Swiss and could easily (and may have) have responded or provoked in kind but the young kiwi lad likely had no idea what the insult was... Not saying it’s right to treat your competitors with no respect, but it seems a little one sided. Given the language I hear around here from the Swiss teens and preteens, I doubt it was a one sided affair...

Someone who used to post here and who is pretty damn good with carbon installed it in their garden.

In our marina, everyone gets a finger. Finger is 9m long, but i've seen the other kind of stern-to setup with the forward mooring lines - usually in the Med. It's not that the weather is more benign and the marina is built more lightly. There are 7m tides and 2-4 50-60knt blows per winter where we are. https://goo.gl/maps/Wqf3znpb4Xzup5Ts8 You can even see Peter Blake St., just there on the left...

Likewise, Switzerland makes NZ look damn expensive.

Sorry to read that. I noticed in France that many boats are in great nick, even the old tubs. The owners have money left to maintain them because marina fees are only €200 a month for an 11m berth. That includes free careening on a washed and treated grid, unlimited electricity, water, security, free checks on your boat while you're away, free moving your boat if it needs it, free docking assistance if required, free wifi, free unlimited parking for your crew, free supermarket pickup and drop off, and they're happy if you liveaboard. Lift and 72h on the hard is 200 bucks. I don't care

The wrap on my boat is very easily damaged last lift the straps damaged the edge in at least 2 places... Also, docks with gusty wind and strong currents are not my friend...

Interesting to note, that after 2 weeks lurking around in France I got the feeling that on average the boats were far better maintained and sailed than the majority I see in marinas or bays in nz. Many smaller older boats with sparking antifoul. All neat and ship shape. All using day shapes, and all using anchor lights even in Anchorages away from fairways etc. I saw 1 vessel without an anchor light and 20 min later he’d hung a lantern up. -

HT, Letting your painter out would be pretty damn abrasive action, in fact if you happened to cause an accident and someone was injured, i think you’d have a hard time avoiding a prison sentence... just like you’d have a hard time avoiding a prison sentence if you threw a brick through the window of the car onto the driver after he’d stopped at the pedestrian crossing for you... -
Fitted a pressure buffer tank and a carbon filter. Sealed the tiny gaps in the galley bench. Fixed a leaking watermaker. Attached the carvings and markings plaque, bought a crew set of inflatable life jackets and harnesses, and took a newbie on a 5 day cruise: now hooked . Went for a cruise in Brittany. Found a nice little bay sheltered from all weather except the prevailing, lol. Scored a permanent marina berth in Brest: 12-15 month waiting list ... took us 7 weeks... not sure how that happened but happy to hand over the €2350. Slightly more than a weekend’s achievement but close en

It’s starting to sound like the race of the decade. Well, we’re not going to make it and it’s likely just as well given it’s well sold out. But for the next one after this, it’s a lot more likely you’ll see at least 1 pogo 36 on the line...

Update, 10 July, 6:20 a.m.: A team of adventurers succeeded in paddling a primitive dug-out canoe across more than 200 kilometers of ocean to demonstrate how ancient humans may have reached the Ryukyu Islands scattered between Taiwan and Japan. “It was an unexpected big success,” says archeologist Yousuke Kaifu of Japan's National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo.

Get a big friend, or two normal friends to actively balance the boat with their body weight as you swing the boom out over the finger... And put some tarps and polythene down to catch any crap that dribbles out of the engine. Have a few wooden blocks ready to prop the engine up to stop it rolling or turning out of control.

Interesting, but this wording indicates the requirement only applies if you are going to or coming from somewhere else and want to stop in as you go past.

I’ve used it. Seems good.not tested it thoroughly, though
