New lids for the anchor locker and of course an anchor to suit.

Hi Has anyone connected one of these ATV remotes to a Maxwell winch solinoid ? Thanks
-
We used this book; https://100magicmiles.com/category/the-whitsundays/ Didn't really get any weather to test anchorages etc. From memory it was all easy going and several options.

Hi As a compact charter/cruise area it works well. We did an 7 day charter and that allowed for a medium paced zoom around the major features, equally we could have holed up in a couple of spots for the week (personal choice). The charter company was great to work with and the boat was well looked after an set up.

As seen on twitter this afternoon: First Atlantic crossing by an unmanned surface vehicle. The SB Met has made it across and we are very proud of her. She is the first ever unmanned surface vehicle to complete an Atlantic crossing. After 80 days at sea she has finally arrived at the finish line. Many thanks to all who made this possible. Marine Institute’s Centre for Applied Oean Technology, Christan Michelsen Research and the MicroTransat team. https://twitter.com/offshoresensing/status/1034012140657696768

Farr 6000 refurbishing: floor crack..., new lining, hardwood removal
eruptn replied to Damienmumu's topic in TechTalk
Re the hull liner/fracture/seperation ..... see if you can work how that relates to supports or rollers on the trailer. Often the hull liner is damaged by pressure from supports on the trailer. The hull maybe soft there too. Looks like the wiring was held by the adhesive tags ... replace with new ones as MK mentioned. Removing the woodwork maybe a real issue, sanding in place is often a better way to go. Great to see these boats been restored. -
OMG I'm a lot less sceptical now ....

These guys have done 45000 miles and the first three are within a mile of each other as they approach the finish...

Go the simple route, get the model with the inbuilt GPS chip set, why have add on bits and pieces. I've used a IPad mini as back up for the last 3 coastal classics and the Garmin Blue chart cartography. There is a good selection now available for the cartography. Works well down below, not designed for use at the helm. Gives you a nice simple stand alone backup. Preferred backup at the helm is a Garmin 78, fits nicely in the phone pocket of the wet weather gear, around 16 hours on 2 AA batteries.

Yes .... trying to locate where an old map was made. Yes I'm well familiar with ground deformation; click on any blue triangle here: https://www.geonet.org.nz/data/gnss/map The plot is mm of displacement since the site was built ... note they only show the last 7 years by default. I'm assuming I can put the coordinates into a grid transformation formula and it will pop out the coordinates I can plot on a modern map .... just want to be aware of the fishhooks. I'd be happy to know I was within 5-10 m.

Question for the navigators and cartographers. I’m working with some very old mapping data of the hot spring areas … in one report I have a couple of latitudes and longitudes. I’m wondering what considerations I need to give in plotting them to a map to day. The data was collected in the 1860’s and I assume as a sun shot or similar. Thanks

Love to be a fly on the wall here (seen on twitter): Maritime Surveyors from around New Zealand and Australia are gathering in Wellington today and tomorrow at the Maritime NZ facilitated workshop discussing matters of significance and updates from within the industry.

Time will tell if we enjoy this or not .... https://goo.gl/sLdmMA I seem to remember some chat a few months ago when someone was looking for 2 boats to use.

+1 I find 50 mm masking tape better than electrical tape.

I pulled one apart about 3 years ago, it was possible to source the battery pack and would have been an easy task to do the swap. I'm not sure now what the final issue was, it was around getting the 'date certified' or registered or something. Had to go via a certified something so I could legally use it from memory.

Plenty of seals in the BOP, large numbers at White Island and other islands
