Had a very simialr experience outside White Island enroute to East Cape; boat hit something (soft but firm), slowed right down didn't lurch off course, was like running into a muddy sand bar but almost instantly came free. Nothing was seen over the side-behind us following the incident. About 15 mins latter we did spot a SunFish and we have often wondered if it was one of them. If it was a fishy object, it was like we ran along the side, not a T-bone collision. I think the boat was Time Machine, she was also saiiling through the same area and they hit something that damaged the rudder. Nev

Similar here, hang a car seat off the cabin top, facing the cockpit so they could watch. Once they got mobile a harness was the way to go.

Just pop in a request to the National Maritime Coordination Centre (NMCC) for one of the frigates or OPV's to sort them out. There is bound to be a form to fill in for eliminating jet ski's with 45 caliber rounds at 150 m in public water ways. OR At least an email about the radio behavior .....

Hi I have a set of hand rails on the cabin top, I take it they are teak or similar. It has been suggested I should oil them to give them some protection and make them look more loved, than the curent faded look. Having a read up on oils it appears the use of a sealer is more prefered .... any views out there ? Thanks

Interesting image of what the Chinese have been up to in the last six months, all working from Fiji. Saw the original image in a tweet by GlobalFishWatch.

I upgraded from the Navman to a Garmin DST800, found a subtle size difference. I glassed up the 2nd hole, now i wish I had thought about a glass window! Been able to see what is rapped around the keel is nice.

Hi Check info on Moturekareka Island and the hermit that lived there. There are two wrecks (ive only been able to identify one). You can float a TY inside at highwater and anchor between it and the coast when calm. Another to look out is HMNZS HINAU used as a breakwater at Kaiaua.

Hi Anyone want to suggest a destination I should visit and blog about? Every bay, nook and beach in the Gulf has a story or can end up having a story; the trip there or back as well as what happened while there. Just poke your nose out of Kawakawa Bay, toss a coin (port or starboard) tack/jibe over and head off. For me I like the area around Kawau Island through to Mahurangi (heading up to Warkworth for a coffee is always fun in a trailer yacht) and the exploring of the smaller islands and wrecks. Having said that I'm equally happy exploring from Te Kouma north to Waimate Island area. G

Thought this maybe of interest, the tsunami generated by the M8.2 earthquake off Mexico is still present around our coast. Showing up well at Chatham Islands, Gisborne and Naiper.
