  1. Put a pledge in. There are more expensive t-shirts out there without helping someone out.
  2. As always a good event by SSANZ, we were dead donkey last for a while after the start in the very light breeze getting out of the Harbour, Berenice struggles a bit in the very light, managed to pass a few on the way to Cuvier rounding in close company with the Gaurantee, Spearhead and Activator. Had a great run down the back of Barrier but started to go light on the way to little barrier. While drifting along at about 3 knots we heard a bang and stopped dead, after a bit of a panic we realized there were no rocks around, the helm was jammed but I managed to give it a wiggle and a mass
  3. Looking a bit like the longhaul needs 2 divisions. Looking forward to it due for a bit of time on big blue.

    Question

Yes cheap to use old nmea, the server doesnt have nmea 2000 so if you are not running a server the bbb is a better option. I personally much prefer nmea 2000 for it's simplicity in cabling.

    Question

You could just get a black box bridge for the nexus and it will pass all the info (including depth speed etc) via nmea 2000. A much better solution imho. Adds a usb 2 pc interface as well. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-the-water/windsensors/gnd-10-black-box-bridge/prod144123.html
  6. Those old Maxis sure could sail uphill. The old Girl looks great.

Yes after watching the vid again it's called 42 south and a lot smaller, the paint job look similar in Hueys photo.

  10. Was replying to the OP Terry not your post. I personally prefer peace and quiet most of the time, some people like a good party everyone is different.
  11. Can relate to the sentiment, but (as BooBoo said) I wouldn't choose Issy Bay for a quiet night out. Definitely far better to politely ask or move than to sit there stressing all night tho.
  12. For some reason that name just makes me smile. The good news for the Natural Environment Research Council’s decision to crowd-search a name for its latest polar research vessel is unprecedented public engagement in a sometimes niche area of scientific study. The bad news? Sailing due south in a vessel that sounds like it was christened by a five-year-old who has drunk three cartons of Capri-Sun. Just a day after the NERC launched its poll to name the £200m vessel – which will first head to Antarctica in 2019 – the clear favourite was RRS Boaty McBoatface, with well over 18,000 votes. The
  13. I would say most people would prefer cold and rough to no wind at all. From January through to Mid april is always light unless there is a system going through. Addem just be thankful La Rochelle motors at 7.5 knots a few wont get in until later tonight. We know were La Rochelle lives good pier that.
  14. Yes on the solar panel if it is wireless, discovered that about 6 months ago the plastic used is sh*t and will oxidise so that no sun gets through until that layer is cleaned off.
  15. Kinda glad we decided to give it a miss this year. Can't help but wonder what the answer is for this race. The organisation and the hospitality is great but the weather has been sh*t every year for a long time. Maybe is should be moved to Waitangi or Queens birthday weekend.
  16. Rough night by the looks. Poor buggers. Vodaboat finished looks like they may be the only one.
  17. Looks like Crusader heading in the wrong direction, maybe retired?
  18. I have had a few issues with them. Often a matter off disconnecting everything and then re attaching one by one to find the culprit. Had a bad transducer bring the whole network down once.
  19. Yep looks like there are a couple more that have dropped out. Redline doing well.
  20. Looks like Arethusa has pulled out, hopefully all good on board.
  21. Slow going. Vodafone and crusader starting to stretch out. Going to be a long night. Hopefully the westerly springs up.
  22. Any weather related withdrawals? Looks to be moderating pretty quick in AKL, Still blowing like a bastard in TGA at the moment but definitely dropping slowly.
  23. What Mr H said. Definitely want just smoke the brace rather than a slow ease which could press on the fore stay a bit.Do it all the time even fully crewed and never had an issue.
  24. Have you thought about running the Halyard back to the cockpit? Not normally a lot of work but depends on your setup. In lighter conditions I drop the kite down the front hatch just by leaving 1 wrap of the halyard on the winch and walking forward with it after putting the boat dead downwind and easing the brace. In stronger breeze or when pressed up Blowing the brace and pulling it down the main hatch on the lazy brace works a lot better. Running a brace and a sheet on bigger boats gives you more options as well.
  25. Should be a good run for the rock star boats depending on how quick it goes through. Nice weekend for a slow cruise back.
