Yep coverage in the Fitzroy area has been bad for years especially when it gets busy, there isn't enough capacity. There doesn't seem to be any appetite to fix it. Tryphena is good as you can connect to the mainland towers.

No the charges don't change you just have to update your location via the web interface. First time I did it I rang them but after that online, no issues. If you did it all the time it might be an issue hence why I suggested it for Liveaboards.
  4. In my experience oils are a waste of time unless you re apply all the time. Stay with the weathered looks or rub them down and apply Alwood for a long lasting finish.
  5. Funny last.time I rented a berth in westhaven was just before the RNI. We have a lot of work to do on the boat and a lot of gear to sort so I thought I would stop by the office and get a parking permit. I filled in a form and got handed a white permit not a yellow one like the previous time. Upon enquiring I got told that only lease holders get a yellow one. I commented that it was probably a waste of time and walked out. To my amazement the gentleman obviously stressed out followed me out into the carpark hurling abuse and told me not to come back. Was quite funny to watch. I told.him to inte

These Guys may be suitable. http://cellutronics.co.nz/Marine_Antenna_Kits.php For cheap liveaboard data skinny broadband is pretty damn good $52 for 100gb uses 4g mobile network.
  7. I use an Android app called anchor alarm, have done for years. It has saved me a few times. The good things is I can keep an eye on it from my bunk it constantly updates and shows the distance from the mark. I usually use between 30 - 50 meters depending on where I am.
  8. Very sad, for those that may wish to attend the funeral it is at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Pyes Pa.
  9. North's new 3di Nordac is worth a look at for a cruising or club racing boat.very reasonably priced, durable and great performance.
  10. Not necessarily true Harrytom, there was an ongoing legacy as a result of the AC being held here the continues to this day. Superyachts still visit NZ to have work done Cup or not. It showcases our marine industry if and when the Cup superyachts visit the majority of them will be having work done whilst here. As for the Rugby World Cup all the stats are here An average of $3400 per visitor. The more money we bring in from overseas the better it is for our economy.
  11. I don't think a fee is unreasonable, it's pretty standard just depends how much it is. For the Ruby world cup operating costs were 300 million of which the IRB was paid $150 million as a hosting fee, plus another $350 million was spent on stadiums. http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/5843621/World-Cup-absolutely-worth-price-tag
  12. It is ballasted, there is ballast in the foils.
  13. This is the one we have http://discount-marine.co.nz/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=343_430&products_id=7471&zenid=9e27eico67urppjao093ovh5a6 internals are pretty much identical, probably a copy.
  14. I imagine so you can drop the sail and still have it attached to the boat, all the advantages of a hank on sail with the convenience of a furler.

  16. Supposedly Bermuda made a tidy profit from the AC http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11942756
  17. Is it the Standard Keel or modded? Find the fastest one with a similar keel and Rig and copy them, no point experimenting unless you have loads of cash to blow. http://racetrack.org.nz/class.php?classid=15
  18. All conjecture at this stage but Volvo 65's are 4.8 meters and IMOCA 60's are 4.5
  19. It would need to 2.5 isn't nearly enough plus that depth would be need all the way out to the course.
  20. Plus it's probably a bit shallow isn't it?
  21. Agreed but It would be nice if some non industrial development were to take place on the waterfront sort of like happened with the viaduct.
  22. From the TYPBC newsletter. a bit of a surprise to get a call from Dick Meacham of Emirates Team New Zealand on Monday saying that he, Kevin Shoebridge and Ray Davies wanted to come down and have a look at Tauranga with a view to considering it as a possibility to host the Americas Cup Challenger series and the Americas Cup between January and March of 2021. This was to be a top secret visit but by the time they got here yesterday they had changed their minds about that and were happy for us to publicise it. Hence I can talk about it here. It seems that preparations and even plans for pr
