  4. There's a video which any club would pleased with 111 dhows for a race
  5. Read up and to prevent barnacle they rubbed line oil on bottom.
  6. fat fingers on ph,are we going faster in comparison?
  7. The vessels that intrigue me is the dowel. Little breeze yet seem quick.so have we really revolutionised sailing?sure modern materials and designs but looking the out riggers etcin comparison are werewolf going faster?
  8. My first yacht was surveyed and the second / tap fitting never got picked up as a problem.bronze skin fitting with a ss tap with a copper tail. Engine water intake corroded and butterfly thing inside gave way and copper tail fell off due to corrosion.vessel sank on mooring.insurabce sent parts away for analysing. Result due to combination if dissimilar caused failure
  9. Any current from enginecould travel down shaft.seal has water in it which will be touch bronze fitting.zinc on shaft wears away. Can just be a simple case of salt crystals drying on fitting.amazing how salt gets in from air even though no physical water. Yet to see any bronze fittings on a vessel that has not tarnished over the years and has no white on it. Salt water is amazing stuff and when dry how/where it makes contact.
  10. Just a thought, you have a dripless stern gland??When vessel in water the gland fills with water so the s/s shaft and bronze gland holding the shaft in place, there is your connection. ss+ bronze+water
  11. I had a plastimo and cooking pizza we turned on about 1/4 soft base, but door did get hot.The plastimo oven gas line is steel covered in ali foil.Mine corroded through so replaced with 6mm copper pipe.

    Trash Pumps

never mind an electric pump when the water is over the floor boards. I would be wanting a bucket or a manual whale gusher pump, bilge pumps are fine from experience when located in one place but when you need a pump in hurry all sorts of debris float along and get sucked in,next minute pump stopped.
  13. The question is,how do you intend to apply it and what are you painting, topsides??
  14. Remember when the guy at rnznsc had the 18 footer "wang"and reckon he could beat the record as long as it was a reach
  15. KM there poses another question,"skipper is responsible"?fair enough. But how does ynz/mnz etc know what my capabilities are?I may never of sailed or even been on a vessel till last week ,until I brought this vessel. So begs the question if I have no experience and the powers to say no too giving me CAT1 due to lack of experience. Would it not ended up in court under human rights?
  16. If I have this correct,Cat1 is crock, valid for 1 month before departure date??so customs only want to see your cert?so borrow the gear get cat1 and hand it all back, who would be any the wiser??
  17. How do they work on a alloy yacht or what should be used on alloy?
  18. The yacht "Your Honour is my home .I didn't like the neighbours so I moved"
  19. Boycott YNZ/MNZ get a group together and say thats it,we are off to who knows where and we are not paying. What would the powers to be do?? Get the navy to board every vessel and then try to figure out how to sail??
  20. 1/4 of nz departures results in 1/3 rescue why? inexperienced crews/skippers due to yachts being inexpensive, which leads to my thinking that every man thinks he can go offshore with no worries, just need to get cat1 and away little or no sailing experience. We have all heard the stories of,mate she was a cake ride to fiji etc Would I contemplate going offshore in my own vessel without going with an experienced crew/skipper first?NO Perhaps there needs to be some form of bond/insurance to cover rescues?no I do not think so gives the airforce something to do and lets the navy put in to p
  21. Thanks "BP" so its safe to assume,by the figures,we are safer going offshore than those inshore ??coastguard helped 6797 get safely home in 2017.
  22. That is sad "ScottiE"last time I saw cookie was when he brought the launch and stopped him putting petrol in the diesel tank, bloody good guy and his wife Pam.
  23. Asked for it a year or to back and no one knew what I was talking about, tapped in oxalic acid bunnings nz up it popped, its in the gardening section
  24. How many search and rescue operations do our airforce/navy undertake each year?? How private NZ registered vessels leave NZ each year?? Be interested to know what the ratio is between those venturing offshore requiring assistance compared to those who potter around the gulf or venture around NZ. 2017 coastguard brought 6797 people home safely.
