  1. Well said !! If there is ANY positive to be taken out of this its this. 1st rule - Don't go overboard ...Ever !!
  2. Knocked overboard by the mainsheet while going forward to tidy up the fro sheet. Hard to appropriate blame, it just sounds like really really bad luck! Grim reading eh..............
  3. That's a pretty concerning statement in my opinion. The gear obviously wasn't appropriate because 1. He went overboard in 35 knots 2. I don't think he survived ! Maybe the tether broke, but what happened to the ais and personal epirb?
  4. Terrible, terrible news. There is always hope, but chances of getting him back must be slim.
  5. I reckon it really depends if you're racing or cruising. for racing the yamaha 8hp 2 stroke or tohatsu 9.8 2 stroke are both good light grunty engines. We are running a tohatsu 9.8 on our gbe catamaran and its got more grunt and is lighter than the yamaha 8hp. If you're cruising then a heavier 9.9 4 stroke will give you lots of power at the cost of weight.
  6. We got our insurance for freedom through Nautical insurance. We are a 1970's multi on a swing mooring with race cover. they were great with no survey required. they just wants pics of the boat and a statement that the boat was in good condition. 13. Provincial Cowboys Bay Week If you haven’t done one of these you should. New Zealand’s bay of islands is right up there with Antigua or The Whitsundays in terms of incredible sailing waters. Provincial Cowboy a 30 year old Ross 40 won this series 2 years ago and has had a few more successes since. As a result of this we were given the same handicap as the Farr 55 Cotton Blossom and the 44 foot Elliot tourer Fiction, both big fast boats. We gave time to our sister ship Urban Cowboy. At 40 feet ( smallest waterline length with Urban) and the second smallest handicap, sailing to our handic

I'm enjoying the drone footage of them out on the ocean. Gosh they must have a pretty serious drone to be able to take off and land on the boats and keep up in the conditions which they are filming at. Anyone know what they're using?? In terms of the one design, course etc you just have to accept it I guess. Its called progress yes its commercial and glitzy but you can't really go backwards to ior maxi's etc. The volvo 70' were awesome boats until they exploded every leg, then limped to the nearest port to lick their wounds. Or they ran out of sponsorship money and withdrew. Ov

  19. Always good when you're covered in bruises on a monday morning. Lovely weekend at Tiri with 5 kids for my son's 9th birthday. One child got seasick on the way out and on the way home. But perked up after throwing up. Al in all Tiri in a light noreasterly is a great place to wear out 9 year olds. Now finding out which bits I missed with sunscreen.

  21. fair enough I shall stfu and watch with interest
  22. Yeah that works Fish. But self righting ????? How you do support a 100 foot rig, plus sails in the light ????? She'll be a fat arsed bitch ! Too many questions............
  23. No, multi's and mono's are very different. Multi's are inherently stable and require no ballast. in fact they're built as light as possible. Mono's require lead to keep them upright. canting keelers are inefficient multihulls, in that they have a weighty ballasted thing to windward, rather than a light floaty thing to leeward. Imoca 60 Foiling canters are basically trimarans with a very big center hull. There are several stories of the guys sailing home after the canting keel has fallen off. These things are something else the ballasted foil things are what really confuses
  24. Um how many canting keels have fallen off - lots also canting keels don't cant 200 odd degrees and there are two of these flappy things heavy things don't fly, they sink! THINK about the loads on everything!! - I mean cats load up heaps and we're not trying to lug around tons of ballast how do you power the cant movement of the flappy things - engine, fuel, batteries? Look hats off to them if it works. I just can't see it !! and it is against every reason for dumping the ac50's
