  1. This time the lobbying was from top British circumnavigators Mike Golding and Dee Cafari. https://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2018/11/11/considering-offshore-olympic-event/
  2. To charter one of these Lasers for the nationals in January at Manly will cost between $1750, and $2500.
  3. A Mixed Two Person Keelboat Offshore will feature at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after World Sailing's Council voted in favour of it replacing the Mixed One Person Dinghy. https://www.sail-world.com/news/211845/Mixed-Offshore-Event-added-to-Paris-2024 Finn Class Hits Out At World Sailing Over Late Olympic Mixed Dinghy Switch https://afloat.ie/sail/isaf/item/40989-finn-world-sailing-mixed-dinghy-olympics

  6. I saw this on One News last night. Can't find the video link. The boat has been at Core Builders in Warkworth for the last 3 years. They have a facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Magic-Bus-367225536794411/ Here is a report from Martin Tasker when the boat arrived:
  7. Fish, I agree with most of your observations, but some of your details re GGR are wrong. They have stereos, and Mark Sinclair is an avid listener, Cat Stevens Matthew and Son is one of his favourites! They also have solar and batteries. Mark Slats has oars, and rows when he gets becalmed, but this doesn't work when there is any sea or chop. They have quite a lot of diesel, and are allowed to motor for a small number of hours during the race. (20 hours maybe?). Most of them are saving their fuel for the doldrums in the Atlantic on the way home.
  8. More work is planned on extend the boardwalk, and make it easier for those pedestrians passing through the marina. This will affect piers K to R. Sadly this will make it harder for berth holders to access their boats. 10. Latest count is 170. Biggest number of entries in the last 5 years.
  11. Here is the article: https://boatingnz.co.nz/articles/alternative-sacrificial-anodes/ "“All of the engine manufacturers now put aluminum anodes on their product instead of zinc,” says Michael Szwez, director of marketing for anode manufacturer CMP Global. He should know, since CMP makes the anodes used by most of the major outboard engine manufacturers."
  12. Article in latest BoatingNZ says that zinc anodes have been superceded. Aluminium anodes are superior and now the way to go!
  13. About 10 years ago there was an article in Boating NZ about affordable boats you could sail to Fiji. The Easterly got an OK review, but the Davidson 31 and Cav 32 were rated slightly better.
  14. This good news for all the boat builders at Core Composites in Warkworth. They have remodelled all the AC50s to turn them into F50s. Only 5 crew on board, so I wonder what sort of system they will use to power the hydraulics? Cyclors maybe?
  15. Boaties stranded as calls to lift marina bridge go unanswered Up to eight yachts were stuck out at sea recently when multiple calls to get a marina bridge raised were not answered and amid ongoing communication issues. Auckland Transport, which operated the lifting bridge remotely from its city operations centre (ATOC), confirmed the incident at Auckland's Milford Marina on September 9. https://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/107431774/boaties-stranded-as-calls-to-lift-marina-bridge-go-unanswered
  16. Yes I will probably need a ride back. Also need to watch out for that speed camera at Kamo!
  17. A friend of mine 3D printed a cover for his Raymarine instrument.
  18. Both boats are still floating and dirfting, with trackers on. There was talk of Indian Navy taking them to an island 40 miles away, but not sure if that will happen. One of the boats is an exact replica of Robin Knox Johnstone's Suhaili, built stronger and heavier.
  19. Update 2 hours ago: Indian Navy overflew Tomy during the night. Australian JRCC Aircraft about to Overfly Tomy and Gregor now. Tomy cannot communicate with aircraft as batteries flat on aviation and marine VHF. Weather delay first ship till AM 25th. Gregor ETA under jury rig now AM 24th. Tomy has not drunk water since injury. Gale on scene now 35kts will drop 1800UTC today wind drop to 15kts am 24th . Thoughts are with all involved in recovery.
  20. Well it sounds like there are at least 3 ships on their way to help him - French, Indian, and Australian.
  21. The multi-millionare proponents of controversial Auckland marina housing plans want the council to push ahead and make money from selling the land. On Tuesday, property and development manager for Herbert's Empire Capital, David Boersen, told Auckland councillors "the people of Auckland need and expect more from these spaces". "These spaces need investments to deliver this development and public transport outcomes to enable place making and also to facilitate the ongoing growth of Auckland," he said. https://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/107161181/developers-urge-business-as-usual
  22. Simon Herbert bought the 570 berth Pine Harbour Marina for $22 million, 3 years ago. He also owns Bayswater, Hobsonville and Gulf Harbour, and now wants to put 200 apartments at each site! https://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/107161181/developers-urge-business-as-usual-approach-to-auckland-marina-land-sales
