ScottiE 174
The latest update has Conrad touching just over 5kts - go you good thing!
MarkMT 68
I had wondered about the square top on the resurrected main, whether perhaps that was part of the original sail, but no, he actually made it that way. A great new write up here... http://www.conradcolman.com/single-post/2017/02/17/Update-day-104-the-writer-is-back And he's down to powdered soup and life raft biscuits! Island Time 1,278
Great Effort! He'll make it I'm sure.
Battgirl 23
Woohoo 5.8kts vmg go Conrad!
ScottiE 174
Now 6.2 kts and 116nm in 24hrs will probably be closer to 150nm by morning. This guy deserves a ticker tape parade through Westhaven at least - he won't get one of course but he definitely deserves some recognition from this side of the equator
MarkMT 68
I've been firing nasty tweets at @1newsnz pretty regularly for their abject failure to pick up on this. NZH as well, though they did have one article a week ago, but pretty generic, not indexed in their search engine and the dismasting rated only a single sentence in parentheses. ScottiE 174
I guess that really is Conrad's fault. When you think about it he should have been carrying a signed jersey, worn on the day, by all 15 of the run on squad that won that trophy some call the world cup, lashed to the bow in a neon pulsing lit glazed box! Alas he didn't, so he'll just have to be satisfied with a hundred thousand mad frenchies turning out to watch him cross the finish line in his old tub with a stumpy mast! Right now I know which group I'd rather be associated with. Fair to say I've forgiven "the people" of France for the past indiscretions of their polies!
Battgirl 23
Upwind and light wind now but Conrad's got company in the slow moving department. What a way to finish your vendee. It's not over till you're over
ScottiE 174
Geez now he's suffering very light head winds and going backwards again to avoid bouncing of Spain. Hope that food holds out
Battgirl 23
What a nail biter. Is there anything Conrad hasn't had to deal with in this race? It looks light for the next couple of days.
erice 732
400nm to go good winds again on the 23rd hope he brought some fishing line and lures
ScottiE 174
just what I was thinking - otherwise its a long way with no food. Got to think its against him if its true that he's down to liferaft rations. Hopeful his crew snuck something onboard before he left!
Battgirl 23
Good idea guys but he is vegetarian. He's still got the sprouts he's growing on board. Maybe he can hook some edible seaweed. Any thing's possible for Conrad
ScottiE 174
I wonder if he'll hang on to that conviction in another week and still 100nm from the line. Probably no fish that close in the bay anyway!
Black Panther 1,675
To those who think sport is all about winning I have two words - Conrad Coleman.
MarkMT 68
Well said. Latest article is a good read http://www.vendeeglobe.org/en/news/18919/send-sunshine-conrad-colman-speaks-about-his-dismasting-and-battle-to-finish-the-vendee-globe
MarkMT 68
Finally - report coming up on 1 news next segment!
ScottiE 174
Conrad's just tacked 2 hours ago. Hoping this board has him lifting to the line by the looks. Back up to almost 5kts too with more breeze coming down in the next day or two. Go you good thing!
ScottiE 174
Big knock overnight - puts paid to that idea!
180S 20
Have been watching his VMG figures, 0.8 at the moment, assuming that means he is making .8knts towards his destination with 289nm to go , that's another 15days , hope he's got a fishing line or at least some old school hemp rope .
