Norwester 3
I am looking for any information on this design. My son has just purchased one that is in the Netherlands and was supposedly built in England. Thanks for your time.

Island Time 1,284
Used to be one raced out of Wellington. Damn quick downwind, but pretty slow upwind in a chop....
raz88 97
Used to be one raced out of Wellington. Damn quick downwind, but pretty slow upwind in a chop.... Might be Oldsmobile, now in Waikawa?
Island Time 1,284
Name does not ring a bell... but could be renamed of course.
mattm 106
Racetrack only has 3 on record. Oldsmobile which is raced still in a Waikawa, Prawn Broker, which hasn’t had a race recorded on racetrack since 2016 in Aucklald, and Positive Touch, which hasn’t raced recorded since 2009, in Auckland also. http://racetrack.org.nz/class.php?rnk=2&s=1&classid=
markm 30
Yes, PT in New Cal. A few in Aus but don't think they had the same pace as the Kiwi ones
Ex Machina 384
There are 2/3 in westhaven on the same pier I think G ? Behind the ponce . Pretty sure one is “r n b” can’t remember the other names but two of them were looking halfway through some mods/repair work .
Howdie2 8
Oldsmobile used to be called camellion in Wellington for awhile
Ex Machina 384
KM if you send your mate that link all the NZ 8.4 rockets are mentioned there . “What’s news “ and “wild thing “ are two more that were in Auckland for a bit
Ex Machina 384
Bit of boat porn ! “R n B” , wild thing , blue dude and what’s news
smitty 4
Wild Thing was given a very impressive upgrade & complete renovation several years ago, from memory there was a thread on this site. Was it a guy named Adrian? He sold it possibly down south?
The big T 41
The 8.4's are not Rockets. The three mentioned ones are. Prawnbroker is undergoing a long birthday at Westhaven, Positive Touch went to NC after being tootooed with in terms of a diesel in then out, and I cannot comment on the other. Think Extreme may also attract the title Rocket - still at Westhaven.
Ex Machina 384
That lines up nicely with a comment I heard yesterday that suggest a Auckland gent of some note who recently become boat free is considering going shopping in New Cal for a 'well known Young design boat'. Word is he wants to bring it home. Shall do Thanks, Cazzate. It’s a red one so probably is PT and build year is 1981 and has a heap of interior stuff that probably wasn’t there when it left here
Frank 157
I recall one called Buckle Up at Pine Harbour many years ago, it was red , I think it was a Rocket 31, could be wrong.
markm 30
From what I know , Rocket 31s: - Oldsmobile at Waikawa- Positive Touch in New Cal- Also Party Time in New Cal- Kaos and two or three others in Aus - Camp Freddie (extended slightly) in UK- Zapata in Europe- Mayhem Plus in UK- TEOTYL, French registered ORC but that could be New Cal or France Young 8.4s : - R n B and What's News, AKL- Correct with Wild Thing, think the upgrade included a wing mast, now in Tasman Bay- Blue Dude New Cal- YoungStar Sydney- Gambit, Hong Kong Know of only one Buckle Up which was a Rocket 40 in Aus, the Aussies worship it
Kestrahl 10
There is also two Young 8.4s in Singapore. SF Two and can't remember the name of the other one. Both original with lifting wing keels.
philstar 61
Wild thing had a huge birthday about 8 years ago by adrian. included a new transom, new carbon mast, new sails, new keel. She goes like a rocket. Sold to nelson where she is raced regularly. Beautiful boat. Public Image is another 8.4 in Auckland which was given a wee birthday at the Weiti River a few years ago used for a season then ignored for several seasons. She was sold recently, I'm not sure where to. She was built by Mr Vorpal blade who is a member on here.
markm 30
Think Public Image is a different hull shape to the Wild Thing shape. Sold but still in Whangaparoa area I believe.
