Came back to Gulf Harbour today. Got bored after 4 days at anchor, wanted a sail. It was brisk out there, 30-40 odd knots, couple of meters of sea. I’ll do some maintenance, and go out again in a few days…

Full glass for us up here in Whangaroa now. Heading further north tomorrow.

Had a great non stop sail up to BOI on Xmas day evening (left Weiti at 11pm rounded Cape Brett at 3pm) got sunburnt and enjoyed typical BOI cruising for maybe 4-5 days before it turned. Luckily had a mates mooring Sussed in Matauwhi Bay and hooked onto that new years day. Had a vehicle up there and made a few day trips to get kids off the boat, Russell Vehicle Ferry did well out of us. Went up to Cape Reinga and overnighted at Pukenui Holiday Park, surfed the dunes at Te Paki in horrendous breeze, generally made the best of a damp situation. There was something on TVNZ1 news the other night. I believe the cruiseship industry has been laid up for months and dry docks are full ,so they cannot get in for clean off. Good on bio NZ for making a stand though bit late for some invasive pests.

In a bay just out of Fitzroy, did about 20 miles on the pick last night with all the swirlies, new waterfalls for a scenic outlook and filled the watertanks so not too bad.

We've come home after a week in Coro. Had never been to Te Kouma before (only been a boat owner for 18 months, 9 of which was a re-fit). Blown away by the beauty of this place, especially so close to home in the Weiti River. Came back on Sunday with the easterly pushing us along nicely, top speed of 10.5 with the number 2 up, surfing down a few swells much to the delight of my kids (not so much the Mrs😅). Will definitely be back there soon. Favourite spot - Rangipukea Island
