    CI still in okay bay
  2. Presumably this will also remove the ability of the clubs to host mid week functions as well. Another kick in the guts for the clubs there? Council want them gone anyway!
  3. I'd like to Zoe's stance on this. After all she is or was their public spokesperson
  4. the luff curve looks pretty flat in that pic ? a lower gooseneck is good - most GBE's racing in auckland have a main sail plan very similar to what you show - some with an even lower gooseneck. It'll give you significantly better performance than your existing sail regardless!
  5. I wasn't sure if your reference to being laid up over winter suggested something a little more about ice, snow, cold temperatures affecting the fibres? If that was the case then for a long layup wouldn't you just leave it loosely flaked below on a forward berth.
  6. you can be sure that the beaurocrats will close ranks on any issue that may or may not have occured. There won't be a bloke asleep in a hut next to the bridge - it'll be controlled from "central command" in the city and probably on some stupid auto time loop.
  7. IIRC - didn't AC change the consent requirements so that it has to be called to be up rather than left up during high tides - i.e. those pesky scooter bound pedestrians take precedence!
  8. the cogs of a hand drill in the hands of a private citizen can turn much faster!
  9. just thinking about this a bit more before heading off to the pub. If some are suggesting that I should have a lot more bat capacity - say +200Ah - why would I even bother with a start battery. It's only a 20hp motor that can be pull started with ease if necessary. Surely I just have one bank of bats - or two 100Ah bats that I allow to be utlilsed by the "house". CCA won't really be a problem I don't think - the smallest 12V battery you can buy is all that is required.
  10. what a majic photo! I like the new eyebrows on Catabatic - very TC esque!
  11. Wow! 5s - was it really that close!?! Sounds like we need a race debrief Ken.
  12. yeh I got an email forwarded from PYBC
  13. that really is quite sweet - I prefer the lines of the older boat but both still very functional. The Woods Banshee and the Roger Hill cat (passing wind) are similar with increading levels of complexity.

    Interior Paint?

The interior of Ballistic was painted with Por15 Whitecote http://www.permanentpaintedcoatings.co.nz/por15/Products/Top_Coats/Whitecote.aspx Having dropped all manner of heavy tools on the floor etc. I cannot rate this highly enough. It basically started its life as a engine bay and chasis topcoat system I think. Pete just brushed it on and you would hardly tell as it seems to have set up very nicely.

  17. If in the Auckland region he's welcome to use mine as the boat still won't be in (hoping final coat goes on over aniv. w/e.). Tamaki River 500kg 1.5 m at low tide.
  18. thanks wheels - I recall a discussion on gensets here last year? As we roll into a beautiful weekend I'm also reminded of keeping "fridge to fridge" commute time so a bare minimum. I can be on my boat within 10mins of leaving the house which is pretty good but wasted if the contents of the fridge are not cold. Do people keep their fridge running on their moorings using solar and perhaps a timer? In the summer I intend being on board 2-3 times a week with any luck (perhaps only once in the winter months but wouldn't bother with the fridge) so can keep a regular eye out it sorta does make
  19. sh*t 400Ah - 100kg worth give or take! But I take your point. I think though that we'll be starting out with a pretty minimal load demand and work our way up to all the "ncessitied" of life on a caravan. I might up the house and the solar on the strength of both Bill and Ken's comments - which ups the MPPT as well I guess. Ken - where do you position 100W of solar - I'm thinking it needs to go away when under sail. Ferrari - my read of the maerial for the BEP switch bank with VSR suggests that you describe shouldn't happen in that when the O/B is stopped the relay should open to dis
  20. so I've decided to rebuild the entire electrical system while I wait for the painter to come right. This is a sketch I came up with last night - its rough and certainly not a complete wiring diagram at this stage but I thought I might as well through it out for constructive critism anyway! I haven't worked out the loads yet but thought I'd go for the following mostly around best bang for buck at this stage. DVSR - BEP mini switch w- DVSR Start Bat - 30-50Ah (o/b is a honda bf20 with a 12V alt rectified and regulated) House bat - ~100 Ah Solar Panel 5--100 Ah MPPT controller ~20A L

    GBE

you could chase down Gopher Broke - I don't think that's moved much since the shift up. Dare I say it but you could try for U2 as well - that boat is probably buggerred now.
  22. 16kts - you say? yeehaa - mast head genne flying, calling the puffs. Hope you wear inflatable pfd's and not life jackets
