  1. Ouch. At least you didn't become the victim of a shark feeding frenzy. Or have to watch your newly rebuilt vessel sail over the horizon.
  2. Apparently the plate was torn off and left behind. A fairly well done job
  3. This was nicked in Huntly yesterday, if you spot it please respond here. I know it doesn't sail, but it still shares the ocean.
  4. Cool, I'm back in the water in the next few days, I'll go and check out the pontoon, and maybe even the spencer just to quench my curiosity of all things wet
  5. ^ Looks expensive, even before the wall incident
  6. Any more info? I thought the same thing a while back, turned out to be a piece of floating pontoon, or so I'm told. Right at the northern tip of the mooring area. I couldn't see anything else from the bridge this morning, but I did wonder whether the mighty VB had moved further north than last year

    Blue lights

That's a good thought xtl, my boat is black, the only white parts being ama decks. Maybe a solar garden light on the cabin top could be useful on the mooring. I'm not exactly in a high traffic area though. This thread has made me realise that I need an anchor light by next weekend. Battery powered LED cost around $30, and as that is the extent of my electrical system, I'd best get shares in Energizer batteries
  8. HT, my little trailer yacht is sitting on Murray's lawn, you're welcome to take it for a day or two, just BYO bedding 'cos she's bare inside. Not sure if trailer lights are there, she's not moved in a year.
  9. Or is it? Vic hasn't stated a size, and I doubt his weapon is as big as yours?
  10. Scroll to the bottom of the page, click on "use full version" and you get all the options. Once you've uploaded, switch back to mobile version unless you're a glutton for punishment.
  11. From memory isn't it up through the recess, around the groove and then under the hook bit in the middle? Its just a friction lock, doesn't self tail (tried that when I was a kid, I think the owner recovered it without a big knife). Might be different on the bigger winches.
  12. Are you sure it's still there? That day I tried to borrow it I couldn't find anything where you described, eventually just pulling the boat onto the mud near high tide and tossing out a couple of anchors. But yes, that's also an option. Just spitballing at present, making sure I leave nothing to chance if we do trade up.
  13. Kiwifish, I can regularly do Huntly to Northcote in 1:05, leaving at around 8am weekends. It seems to take a lot longer to get out to Bucks beach to a mates boat at around the same time- no idea why. Heading home late afternoon is usually pretty quick and easy. It actually takes me anything from 45 minutes to 1:10 to get to work in papakura during the week, such is the weekday traffic
  14. Along a similar vein, does anyone know anything about the Thames mooring situation? Google maps shows a mud marina, really only suited to launches, but I've seen some big multi's on the hard there. We're thinking about upgrading, but my Northcote mooring is not even remotely close to being suitable for the bigger tri. Being in a similar area to kiwifish, the bottom of the firth is our closest real water. I'll need about a metre to float, being a bit tidal not really a worry, would like to get half tide access if possible
  15. So... What happened? Did I miss it? Who won, who sank, who swam?
  16. How about a small tackle attached to one of those open sided clam cleats? Hook it on, Tension as required, tie off the halyard, and remove the tackle. As long as its pulling in the same direction it should work fine
  17. I won't complain if it gets delayed a few days ???? then I could come sailing
  18. We're out this year ???? Probably still be working at finish time
  19. Not really surprising, they are pretty good boats. Not sure I'd want to claw off a nasty coastline in the rough, but that applies to pretty much all yachts really
  20. Certainly that is the case with moat of the big brand lofts. I would doubt that Windward, giddens etc. would have offshore affiliate's. I'm with km, rather have sails built by someone I know and trust. Sadly a lot of the people in that category are getting out, retirement beckons.
  21. Just lately I've seen a few random boats in odd places. The yellow one is in Pukekohe, been there a while. The blue one is in Papakura, only noticed it a few days back, but looks like it has taken root. What else is out there?
  22. Are they still planning a world series thingy? Maybe Akl could just host a double points round or something, kinda like the Volvo in port races. Hell, maybe do a round in Auckland and a round in Tauranga. Keep the country involved, but keep the costs down
  23. I still say an open box rule would be better, unlimited number of hulls and appendages, just build the fastest (say) 50 footer you can. If it's not suitable for the race area, you won't win.
  24. Probably the best date. As usual, I'll get far too excited about this race, then get asked to work or something. Good luck working out a handicap for us Matt, I have no clue how slow we are. And being a bit of a one-off, there's not a lot to work with. The designer seems to think his one is faster than a F24 mk1, but we have planing amas and small kids to add to the mix.
  25. Left east Tamaki in light drizzle, got moderate hail two minutes later on highbrook drive, bright sunshine a couple of minutes after that as I turned northbound onto the motorway, straight into near white-out hail by Otahuhu. And then, a few hours later on the way home, ok weather, swing off at Bombay out to pukekohe for a pizza, nice and fine, then get back to Pokeno and torrential rain with hail mixed in. Apparently my nearly 3 year old heard thunder, walked up to her mum and proudly shouted "Mum, it's Farken' noisy out there!" Dunno where she learned that!!
