  1. The first mistake was that they should have towed it outside the environment
  2. Ask in the club but arent piles about 70 a week?
  3. Love his designs, must be someone in Wellington who has a contact.
  4. Its cheaper to leave it on a mooring until it sinks and say you've sold it on to someone so not my problem! These enterprising gents tried a different approach https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/two-men-who-scuttled-vessel-in-waiheke-island-marine-reserve-and-misled-investigators-fined-40000-in-environment-court/CVQVBWOPVLILZWFGKZJ6KQ74R4/
  5. I think the people who own this live in Aussie if its the same one I'm thinking of. Looks like a massive hole in the water hence the conversion to a mussel farm.
  6. Mine was held together with a mixture of grease, salt and aluminium oxide- by now they are all pretty sad!
  7. it all depends on the mechanism, some fit and some dont.
  8. The council were going to lose, regardless of what kind of person owned the vessel. To avoid precedent, all other incidents involving council moorings will have to follow the same time consuming and expensive path to justice.
  9. Mad skills JB, most of us start a resto with bit more than that!
  10. Theres a few of them out there, like whats his face that T-boned Gypsy whilst motoring during the Auckland anniversary regatta.
  11. When it went ashore a lot of people said it couldnt have happened to a nicer guy so I think that says something. The council could have put it on a huge mooring at Kauri point where various giant hulks have sat rock solid for years during horrendous blows and I'm glad there isnt a precedent otherwise I could be up for damages if the guy renting my mooring came off.
  12. I got a sharp deal at Fosters when I upgraded recently, youll need the specific mechanism and Spinlock part as mentioned. It was under a boat dollar and I could not be happier with how it works so a good deal all around.
  13. I believe the cup headed offshore primarily so that the show can generate more money. Now its just looking for someone to blame but another way to view it is that Fay is doing the adult version of stamping his feet and chucking his toys out of the cot. If the new commodore gave the past one a cheer its because he's not the kind of person to put the boot in.
  14. I like the waterfront club locale, only if to keep it sports oriented rather than developers knocking up yet more apartments on public land. But that said there is a lot of wasted space accommodating 3 clubs when they could all easily share the same premises. The empty buildings could be used for other sporting, public or charitable purposes.
  15. TBH, a lot of clubs seem to be a bit lost. Cant decide if they are function centres, RSA's, adult daycares, flag and trumpet societies, oh and if they should do a bit of yacht racing
  16. Ever feel like the wool has been pulled over your eyes? When this AC decision first came out I asked myself what changed? We still had the venues paid for by taxpayers, we still had the bases, the manufacturers, the crews, the team, the skills, the boats to practice on, the home team advantages, the supporters, the goodwill and a non-covid world to look forward too. Maybe Emirates called in its chips and demanded the series be sailed in its home market and the club folded to Daltons pressure, either way I know a few people who have left the club for the same reasons.
  17. You cant get around physics, its all about volume in the right place. I had to wonder about the hypothetical situation described in the article where they advise putting on a wetsuit and fins prior to disembarking on a lee shore. Yeah right!
  18. The role of most sailing committees is to further their constitutional aims and represent their memberships' interests, canvassing participants would seem a natural part of that. Your comment does raise questions about fundamental governance and what metrics are used to evaluate success, if participation is one then feedback may be useful. What you're politely saying is that participants should put their money where their mouth is. Pretty stifling IMHO, when the question is would the committee be open to feedback? I read that as a pretty clear indication that at least one competitor has
  19. Have to say it was a bit of a let down having 2 race series and no knees up but that's the big C-19 for you, nothing the committee could do about it. On your other point about the divisions, the risk is that if it becomes too easy, then it's less of a race and more of a day out on the water which is ok if you're getting into shorthanded racing but if you're experienced or driving a 40 footer you should probably do the longer courses.
  20. Where are you parking it, 10m vs 12m is a jump. For your money a good 930 might be the way to go Scarlett Fever sold for 20 something and it was a good boat.
  21. Psyche

    Fast Company

Well deserved, he's got so many people into sailing and he makes that boat go really well
  22. Nothing to do with me, I didnt race, just giving my competition a rev up! My approach to SSANZ is always about racing the boats in front that are a few notches better than me. Never had any issues with my racetrack handicap (or PHRF) and often refer to it so see how I am performing against history as club handicaps can seem a bit out of whack at time, probably for all the reasons you mention.
  23. Some pretty brutal handicaps in the Nana division I might have had a chance!
  24. 😂 I think you are describing Westhaven
