  1. You mean he's in rehab?
  2. Shambles indeed. What happens when a trailer yacht without a motor using the ramp by Z Pier comes in or out of the entrance? Is there going to be maneuvering room under sail?
  3. I was incredibly sad to read this news today, Sandra Tartaglino, a well-known US cat sailor was killed in an accident this past weekend on Narragansett Bay while competing in the New England 100. Her F18 was struck by a motorboat, she was thrown into the water and did not survive. https://www.wpri.com/news/local-news/east-bay/dem-identifies-woman-killed-in-boating-accident-on-narragansett-bay/ She was very active in the F18 class. I didn't know her well but had met her when competing in the F16 Worlds in Newport a few years ago. Tributes have been posted by the US F18 and Hobie class assoc
  4. Yes, it was a two-sided affair alright. The port side bow of an NZL windward boat was sailed into the starboard side of a SUI leeward boat in 15-20kt of breeze. If I was the SUI sailor I'd be a little exercised as well.
  5. Interesting, countercultural even...
  6. So that's what they're teaching'em at Wakatere.
  7. YT videos usually embed automatically. Not sure why this didn't.

  9. I would not recommend it. If by default new members don't even see Small Talk, I would worry that a lot of the 'nonsense' will start to show up in other forums.
  10. Great coastal boats from all accounts, but there has been some debate on the last point... http://crew.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic/15043-sailor-in-liferaft-off-norfolk/

  14. Though worth holding and worth funding are two different things. It only takes two boats to have a match and decide a winner. Under the agreement with the government they lose funding if fewer than 3 challengers make it. If I had my way, there would be no government funding regardless of how many show. In the end the real ROI the government is looking for is votes.

  18. I should probably have said any "increase in supply..." Even in a monopolist system an increase in supply changes the competitive landscape in a positive way. Even a monopolist has to compete with you choosing to own a trailer boat or to keep your boat on a swing mooring. If there is an unsatisfied demand for marina berths from people willing to pay current prices (e.g. people on swing moorings who would pay for a berth if they could get one), an increase in supply will meet that demand (this is why I said only "perhaps"). But if the increase in supply exceeds the demand at the current pr
  19. Perhaps more positively, Tom Warren, Panuku's General Manager, Marinas is leaving the organization "to pursue a new venture building marinas." - http://a.smartmailpro.com/webv/4wexlarq3t Any increase in competition from new or expanded marina's is a positive step imo.
  20. Is/was there some ownership connection with the 930 "Wasted Away"? As well as the song, I seem to recall seeing the same unusual deck color when walking the pier at WH.
