Island time.. so are you saying a modern compass over a fluxgate would improve response and control on any hydraulic pilot?

So anyway found hansen valve leaking through the shaft behind the blue handle... Just so happens it was the poo pipe outlet. Decided to change it in the water... No biggie just a bit of water in the boat. But! Went through the plan something like this. Remove pipe.... Yuk floaty bits. Unscrew valve. Push emergency tapered wood bung in hole.... Most boats have these. Thread tape refit new valve! Easy. Not Found skin fitting had ribs on the inside which would not let tapered wooden plug tap in and rufly seal the hole... Bugger lots of ocean in the boat with the floaty bits that

There's a yacht up almost under the Greenhithe bridge with its front flappy thing unfurling if any one knows anyone up there. Cruzy type boat bout 35ft with white doghouse.

Yup ram off its free as a bird. Rest is all good. Will remove ram and take to hydraulic fixer to check. Not sure of relay amp draw as yet but guessing not that because it's in a non energised state when not in use so must deduct from that the valve is sticky maybe... Assuming the solenoid only works one way and spring internally returns valve to bypass.

Click click it goes The engage click is slightly louder than disengage. Should the unit be magnetic when engaged. Or. Maybe the valve inside is not actually moving completely

Hi Trying to work out what is considered to be to heavy drag on B&G autopilot hydraulic ram. Does anyone have a contact for checking this? Or tips Thinking solenoid might be dodgy however it does engage and disengage. Compared to a similar setup on boat next door it is a sh*t load heavier to move. Cheers

FYI How I did mine carbon rudder shaft made template of shaft and what I wanted outside shape I got a block of ally from Ullrich and gave the lot to really good machinist in kumeu total cost with anodising for arm $650 Cut the tube cast the arm onto shaft, built shelf bit more work and all good....the ram was mounted above deck connected to tiller years ago by someone but that in my mind is just wrong for a ram not designed for it. We also did a test piece of the shaft and cannot remember exactly how much to break it but it was definitely above 2.5 tons for my piece of mind. t
