    Yanmar

I have a 3JH4e in my boat. Every now and then I turn the key and nothing happens. I can hear the relay click but no start. Keep turning the key on and off and it will eventually click in. I have been told it's a common fault due to the inadequate wiring from the instruments. I have heard that there is an easy fix. Does anyone know what it is ? Other than that I think it is a good but not necessarily great motor.
  2. Ask John B about chinese shackles. Once he's finished frothing at the mouth he might give you the lowdown !

    Worth a Read

We make sure that if we have guests at night we watch until their lights come on in their boat or signal that all is well. We are all guilty of complacency, especially after a few. It's scary how easy it is for it all to turn to custard

    Thanks. I'll look into it

    Bilge alarm

Hi. I understand it is possible to buy an alarm that sends a txt message when the water level gets too high. Does anyone know anything about them ? Cheers
  6. If you want to blame someone for the state of the council sewers, blame yourselves. For the last 30 or so years no mayor has been elected who has said " I will fix Auckland's drainage problem but it will cost". The problem in this country is we either go for the cheapest option or do nothing at all. You are sailing in the result.

    Steel vs grp

There's a reason why most canal boats are steel. My (limited) experience on the canals is that I would only consider steel now. It can be like dodgems at times. In the Netherlands there is literally thousands of boats 100 years old so I don't think rust is the problem it would be here in salt water.
  8. Like John says. The new one isn't bad furling on the wind though.
  9. Probably have another cyclone by then
  10. Ive just replaced my furler with a selden code zero furler . It has a breaking strain of around 10 tons. I would be happy to use it for a storm furler. It unclips easily so can be put away complete
  11. Hard to tell but it could be quite clever. It was hard to see what the foil shape was like
  12. I posted about this ages ago. They have no legal right to impose fines. They can only charge you for their loss, which is zero. I wrote to them, pointed this out and then threw it in the bin. Haven't heard anything since
  13. Were the photos taken before or after the restoration ?
  14. Hi Booboo. Can you post a pic of the delta. How much are you looking for ?

    HYDE SAILS

IT, I agree with your sentiments and have tried to support the smaller loft's. Unfortunately from my experience the local guys can't be bothered getting out of bed.

    Improper thoughts?

We hired a canal boat in the netherlands early last october. It was towards the end of their season but we absolutely loved it. My parents were dutch, however I can't speak much of it. The advantage of holland is everyone speaks english and generally are very courteous and helpful. We hired a boat for a week. It is actually a really cheap holiday if you think of meals accomodation and transport for a week I would buy a boat over there and do it again at the drop of a hat, but can't afford it yet.
  17. Fry bananas in butter. When starting to get hot, pour in rum. Light rum. (looks impressive but doesn't seem to have much heat) Cook until on verge of burning. Serve hot. Would be great with icecream but we don't have a freezer.
  18. I know I won't win Johnny, I'm just trying not to lose ! MarkMT if you look at my first post I pointed out that Wilson's don't have a leg to stand on. My primary motivation in posting this was to warn otheres that Westhaven must have contracted out their parking to Wilson's,
  19. Such cynicism in one so young Johnny
  20. I have disputed it. I got a standard form email back saying tough sh*t, pay up. I hate to think what the world would be like if we all took the stance of "pay up I can't be bothered". There are a lot of business's out there that rely on human laziness. As far as it being on my "record" I Know it doesn't matter. I applied for a mortgage about 6 months ago. The lady at Kiwibank said, "oh by the way you have a couple of unpaid tickets, but don't worry , we ignore them." It all comes back to reasonableness. What is a reasonable loss that westhaven has suffered? I can only be charged for a reason
  21. I have just got back from westhaven, ironically I was working for the marina. My car was parked on the loading zone (work car, private car has the sticker) for about 45 minutes. Upon returning I have a parking ticket for $65 from wilson parking. I went around to the boat ramp to help my mate put his boat back on the trailer. Lo and behold, he has a ticket too. He was 18 minutes over his time. Wilson's want $65 from him too. I am somewhat annoyed by the heavy handed approach from westhaven. I figure there is little point in talking to them as they will use their standard argument :"we have cont
