  1. Another wee video from the Marshall Law team Downwind and Dolphins
  2. The SSANZ article was great but I would have thought RNI warrented its own article. anyway the latest Marshall Law videos below
  3. I remember Kevlar, he was a unit !! Awesome guy.
  4. pesky richmond and gulf harbour doing racing on the same day!!
  5. Just wondering what everyone thought of this in the latest boating nz? Pretty disappointing that they couldn't do a proper article on the race. Not to disparage Josh and Damons awesome performance but this just reads like an advert for Sun Fast and Orakei marine. What about the fantastic performances from all the other boats in the race Provincial cowboy a 40 year old design which won overall. Activator the super fast cruising boat which surprised even themselves. Blink with Vesna who did half the race with a broken collarbone. Squealer having an absolute mare getting to Welling
  6. Hey all has anyone got a simrad or similar log paddle wheel lying around that they don't want or need? The one on einstein has lost its magnetic paddle wheel and it seems a shame to have to replace the whole log. thanks .
  7. Hey Ken Try not to have any kids on these dates. I vote for sticking to the medium, long, short format. Great to have a get together at the end of the last race as its hard to socialise when you come all the way from Gulf harbour and other marina's.
  8. Ken that is terrible timing. You'll be haunted by this for th rest of your life!!
  9. Conrad is a total legend !!! I so hope he gets some serious sponsorship at the end of this race.
  10. I spent 3 hours watching them leave the doc last night on facebook . Awesome live link.
  11. I agree that the foliers look awesome but seriously fragile. I'm rooting for Alex Thompson on Hugo Boss, serious crap happens too him and he just keeps on trying totally weird stuff. His foils are totally different to the others. Also awesome work by Conrad Coleman he gets some serious cred if and when he makes the finish. Really good dock walk video on sailing anarchy which is actually well worth the 56 minutes it goes on for.
  12. I also totally disagree 100%. Look at the 8.5 cats and tri's for a good example
  13. Careful smithy, we might be slower than before !!!
  14. when is your square top coming booboo?
  15. yup the Ross Substance is a balsa core hopwood hull and decks. With the bulb she makes a really nice cruiser. She doesn't have a factory interior but what she has is just as good. the current owner has done alot of tidying to her. She would be very easy to return to class, just remove the bulb and reinstate the internal ballast. These boats have good resale value when in class trim and with a racing history. Several have sold in the 20 -30k mark in the last few years and the class is having a resurgence in wellington and chch. Check out the Ross 780 facebook page https://www.f
  16. Noelex 25's are good boats but generally go for 25k plus. Any Trojan you look at will be 30 years plus old and they don't sail particularly well. Well sorted looked after Ross 780's are worth 20 - 30k. They are very well built and are an absolute joy to sail. Substance has had a bulb added which has actually made her stiffer but possibly hurt her performance down wind and on a reach which means she is slower than class boats. I wuld suggest taking the bulb off and returning her to class. She is a bargain though and has had lots of money spent on her. I'd seriously waive 15 or 16k
  17. This boat is an absolute bargain. Had heaps of work done to her and all new winches etc. Ross 780's are great boats, loads nice to sail than trojans. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/yachts/trailersailer/auction-1158244509.htm

if I remember correctly she had a full set of storm shutters in the quarter berth made out of plywood ( of course). we never had to use them.

She still looks well looked after too. My advice would be to get a thorough survey if she passes survey you have a lovely boat for a bargain price

I'm Charles son and we owned peridot for 18 years. Wonderful boat. Very slippery downwind. Comfortably quick upwind. She was well looked after and really a hell of alot of boat for the money. Not an off shore boat but we did cook strait in her I n all conditions multiple times. You need to keep on top of the maintenance as always with an elderly wooden boat. But the Spencer 40,s offer great value yachting
  21. Busy weekend. 2 handed training sail on Marshall Law on Saturday, then a Weiti Gulf Harbour race on Sunday on Rafferty Rules. Funny conditions, no sign of the forecast 30-40 knots so I went with the square top main and a self tacker jib which was perfect for the first three legs. Late for the start but it worked out ok with us getting the favoured end of the line. got rolled on the gennaker reach by unitec ( e7. who was managing to plane with a nice new huge genny. Caught up when they played silly luffing games with Shapeshifter (R830). Managed to get Shapeshifter on the next upwind while
  22. Bargain harmonic right here How could you say no, such beautiful boats!! http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/yachts/keeler/auction-1048452155.htm
