  1. I've got some 40 year old FR, definitely mangy, still in the 2 hard basket.
  2. There are a large range of French designs that probably would fit your requirements, I have a 40 year old one, alluminium cutter, 2 Centre boards, unfortunately it wouldn't fit the 6'4" min headroom. Though I have had many 6' plus folk onboard who have managed. All the info you need can be found online, even easier if you speak French. J.P Brouns is one prolific designer, there are many others. Google and Google again.

    Antifouling

A friend had his yacht coppercoated 1 year ago, not happy as it is sloughing off, awaiting a reply from the applicator.
  4. I enjoyed the humour, your post coincided with my experience, hence my post.
  5. Uretiti beach in Northland had had them for 50 years at least, they account for several deaths by drowning Asian paddle crab fishers every year. There was a NIWA boat with divers in the water at Kissing point this morning, 0800 ish, diving on the piles, they said,,? your hull, my hull?? maybe. The NRC are moving back into Whangarei harbour as well, I guess still looking for the not so elusive fan worm and to overload the slipways once more with any unfortunates who have the missfortune to have a few. Actually the fan worm could assist in helping clean up a dirty harbour, especially in the u

    Anodes

I have aluminium Indium annodes, on an aluminium hull, can't see why they wouldn't work on steel.
  7. I had a "Bebi" led (American designed, Fijian made in SavuSavu ) anchor" light that did sterling service for about 6 years, then it became intermittent, it would operate for between 10 minutes and to an hour, then nothing. On-line it was suggested that if you drilled out the photo sensing switch (carefully) it would operate manually. It did but work, but still only for 10 minutes to an hour.

    Keel cooled

In almost all cases the area of keel used as a heat exchanger is lager than that required for the engine in use, with the thermostat in the header doing most of the work, plus a valve in the line to allow a higher flow of cool water through if / when you venture into warmer waters.

    Keel cooled

Dry exhaust shouldn't be a problem if it is insulated, A dry exhaust can be water jacketed and used for water heating. A turbo can give you better mileage, excellent at constant revs. If removed the injector pump would likely need to be re-calibrated.

    Keel cooled

+ 1 Keel cooling is by far the best solution for any inboard motor. You would need a very good reason to want to change it.
  11. Shoulders to just past the hips, allow for longer folk, We used a strong netting fabric allows for air circulation, Eye bolt at each end with 1 x 5mm nylon cord picking up 4 equal points and can be tied of once you are in it, and loosened / untied when you get out. easy peasy.
  12. Garmin Echomap 65CV (6 inch screen) works well for me, Micro CD card allows for updates, will connect by wifi to your ipad / tablet / phone etc. comes with Aus Nz charts already installed, downside was the transducer is a transom one, ( I modified mine to become an in hull one) in hull ones are available but at extra cost, if you are a fisho the finder has all the bells and whistles, does AIS, music, etc etc etc. The bigger sizes do all that as well and then some, cost rises accordingly.
  13. It was working last year until about the (I think) 2nd or 3rd of jan. They probably didn't bother this year as everyone I know has gone to vodafone
  14. Spark does / did? have a cell tower on Kaikoura island, "but" it needs Diesel to run it, in previous years they have filled the fuel tank and ran it from Xmas until the tank runs dry. Not to be used again until the following Xmas. They have good reception down in Tryphena, just not in Fitzroy.
  15. NEasterlies due in around a week or so + -
  16. You can get bitten when they get inside your togs, they don't like to be trapped, older womens togs (non Bikini) make them especially vulnerable.
  17. Phosphoric acid, 1 part to 4 or 5 parts water is a better choice
  18. probably quite tasty to a leopard seal!?
  19. It is a home build, Gary designed it for the builder.
  20. Gary Underwood has designed another, in a similar vein, an example is being built at Ngunguru. Not sure about trailerable though, but probably could be.
  21. Freeze salt water in suitably shaped plastic containers, squeeze a little water out when filling to allow for ice expansion. We have an Engel 40l and turn it down to lowest freeze temp and refreeze the bottles we use in the auxilliary chilly bin, if / when they start to thaw, only takes an hour or two.
  22. If you want bulk raw sheep grease (lanolin) any wool scourer will have it, probably find a 20l minimum.
  23. Chain oil is generally very sticky, Spectro's Chain wax is something else, not sticky, I lube bowden cables with it and have used it on sail slides with success.
  24. Do you mean chain wax, as in motorcycle chains, or just chain oil as in chainsaw chain oil???
